Legacies is the third series set in The Vampire Diaries universe.
As such, some of the characters from the original series will be making their way over to the new iteration.
One person who won't be appearing on the screen is Paul Wesley, who played Stefan Salvatore on all eight seasons of The Vampire Diaries.
But that does not mean he won't be part of the series.
At the Legacies panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, we learned that Wesley would be stepping into the director's chair for an episode of Legacies Season 1.
While it would be great to have Wesley appear in front of the camera, it would not make sense. For a start, Stefan sacrificed himself on The Vampire Diaries Season 8 Episode 16.
We know The Vampire Diaries, and The Originals were big on bringing characters back from the dead, but given the severity of Stefan's sacrifice, there's no way the powers that be would mess with it.
Wesley followed up The Vampire Diaries with a directing stint on Freeform's terminal Shadowhunters, and given his knowledge of the world, he's a perfect choice to direct the series.
Legacies was picked up to series in May. It follows Salvatore Boarding School for the Young & The Gifted, a magic school that was set up by Alaric Saltzman (Matt Davis) and Caroline Forbes (Candice King).
Their daughters, Lizzie and Jose Saltzman will attend the school alongside Klaus Mikaelson and Hayley Marshall's daughter, Hope.
With the series having the same setting as TVD, it means we will be seeing characters from the original series. It was confirmed during the panel that Zach Roerig, who played Matt Donovan would be staging a comeback.
He is the sheriff of Mystic Falls, so we're sure the teenagers will be causing all sorts of trouble to keep him around in some capacity.
What are your thoughts on Wesley stepping behind the cameras as opposed to in front of it?
