Queen of the South Season 3 Episode 4 Review: La Fuerza

at .  Updated at .

Teresa Mendoza once again proved that she's the biggest badass on Queen of the South Season 3 Episode 4, no brute strength required.

After forfeiting her business in Malta to rescue a group of women who were being trafficked by Rocco de la Pena, Teresa and her crew headed back to the United States.

And found yet another psychopath to deal with there.

Sheriff Jed Mayo - Queen of the South Season 3 Episode 4

I'm a huge fan of actor A. Martinez. He's usually wonderful at playing a villain with a heart, but Sheriff Jed Mayo was such a monster that I almost didn't recognize that Martinez was occupying the role.

Mayo was vicious, but like any other psychopath functioning in society, he could rationalize all of his heinous actions with some sort of twisted moral purpose.

With every brutal act, Sheriff Mayo felt justified in his actions.

When Mayo captured Teresa and James, what stood out was that James continued to talk his way out of it, but the chatter made him sound nervous.

Teresa mostly kept quiet and observed her captor.

That may be Teresa's greatest strength. She never reacts out of fear. She stays calm, and she thinks things through before she reacts, even when she's faced with a crazy man hacking a reporter to pieces in front of her.

Whether Mayo comes out of his coma or not, I hope that the video of him torturing a man in his custody is made public. His reputation deserves to be slaughtered for the way he's abused the power of the law to terrorize people who couldn't fight back.

Even when Teresa was sitting next to him in the car, she didn't bother to beg for her life as that would have been pointless. She asked Mayo questions about himself and his behavior partly out of curiosity for what drives such a savage, but also as a way of gathering information on his motives in case she needed it later.

As the exchange for Teresa took place, I kept expecting James to take out Mayo with the sniper rifle when the man got out of the car but that didn't happen.

And then Pote couldn't get the job done either, which crushed him.

I might not be able to fire a bullet but I can take one for you and I will.

Pote

Now that they're back in the States, I hope that Teresa can get Pote to see a hand surgeon to evaluate his injury properly. The man deserves to know whether it's possible for his hand to be fixed, and it's not like Teresa couldn't afford the surgery.

One of the most fun moments was the reappearance of Kelly Anne, aka Priscilla, and the new name suits her.

I couldn't help but laugh at how she kept trying to hug Pote. No, Pote is definitely not a hugger!

I've missed Kelly Anne, and it was good to get an update on Tony. I've been wondering what happened to these two since Pote drove off with them on Queen of the South season 2

Despite Sheriff Mayo still being in the land of the living, Teresa certainly got La Comisión's attention and earned their respect as Pecas pointed out in this Queen of the South quote:

I want to see how you walk because you have bigger balls than any man I've ever met, to come sit at our table with a $10 million bounty on your head.

Pecas

But snakes are everywhere, and betrayal lies around every corner. The upside is that Teresa realizes that and won't get blindsided easily.

Because Camila is coming for her.

Camila was being plagued by nightmares and omens of death. It's no surprise that Teresa was popping up in her dreams.

Having sex with Alonso to banish her worries, that was more unexpected.

Boaz and his crew playing soccer with a man's head was disturbing. It reminded me of seeing Batman roasting on a spit on Queen of the South Season 2 Episode 1

That Cortez manipulating Boaz was all part of Camila's plan wasn't a shock. I would have been disappointed in Camila had she let Cortez and Boaz team up on her, and it's clear that Boaz cannot be trusted.

Just because our kids are engaged to be married you don't think I'll kill the bitch. Did you forget I killed my own brother, asshole? Camila better watch her ass and her damn head.

Boaz

What I couldn't believe was that Camila insulted the woman who took her place at the Widow's March! Talk about cold.

Also, that Spanish version of the song "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" was fantastic. I'm adding it to my playlist as soon as I track it down.

We can only assume that the phone call Pecas made was to Camila, but it also could have been to Alonso, Cortez, or even Rocco de la Pena.

With a $10 million bounty on her head, Teresa has a lot of people searching for her. Will she and her small team be able to hold them all off?

Queen of the South Season 3 Episode 4 Quotes

About seven miles out that way is a mass grave. It's filled with the bodies of dealers who thought just what you're thinking now; set up business here and don't give La Comisión a taste. A graveyard of ambition. Trust me, you want to break into this market it's going to cost blood.

James

There are dirty cops everywhere. I have to stop running at some point. We'll make it work.
