UnREAL is over at Lifetime.
The network has decided to part ways with the Constance Zimmer, and Shiri Appleby fronted drama after four seasons.
The writing has been on the wall for a while now, but with every episode of season 4 already completed before the cancelation, it means fans still have eight episodes left.
It was announced recently that UnREAL Season 4 would hit streaming services in territories other than the U.S. as early as this week. It's certainly a strange move when you consider the fact that UnREAL Season 3 concluded back in April.
A deal has been reached between Lifetime and Hulu, and Season 4 is available as of today to stream in its entirety.
There's no word yet on whether the show is being shopped around, but given the radio silence on the topic from Lifetime, the show is likely over for good after the eight episodes.
UnREAL marked a change in branding for Lifetime scripted series when it launched in 2015. It was a critical success, appearing on multiple lists of the best shows.
But all of that fell apart when UnREAL Season 2 came on the scene. It suffered from the sophomore slump with the characters being put in situations that did not feel natural.
It managed to fix things somewhat in UnREAL Season 3, but there were still a lot of issues, and it's likely why it was difficult to get another platform to pick up the series.
The show has never been a heavy hitter in the ratings, but the most recent season averaged just 0.3 million viewers and a 0.1 rating among adults 18-49.
That means the show dropped over 50 percent between seasons, and it could be attributed to a long delay and, of course, the nosedive in quality.
