Vampire Chronicles TV Series in the Works at Hulu

The TV adaptation of Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles novels has inched one step closer to reality.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series has found a home at Hulu with Rice and her son, Chris Rice attached as Executive Producers.

The duo also penned the script. Bryan Fuller was attached to the series as showrunner for a while, but he departed six months ago, and a search is currently underway for a new showrunner.

The novel series has 12 completed novels, with a 13th due out later this year. They are set in the 18th century and focus on Lestat de Lioncourt, a man who is turned into a vampire.

It was announced in 2016 that a TV show was in early development, and Rice was adamant about it being a project in a similar vein to Game of Thrones.

“Over the years you all have told me how much you want to see a Game of Thrones-style, faithful rendering of this material,” she said in a Facebook post at the time.

“Well, I have heard you. I have always heard you. What you want is what I want… In this, the new golden age of television, such a series is the way to let the entire story of the vampires unfold.”

It's always difficult to get a TV show off the ground, and it's been a slow process for Vampire Chronicles, but at least we can rest assured that the original creative mind is behind the project.

Far too often, adaptations derive from the source material to the point that it's frustrating for fans of the original work. With Anne attached, it is highly likely it will resemble her vision.

Two of the Vampire Chronicles novels have already received adaptations in the past: Interview with the Vampire and Queen of the Damned were each turned into movies.

There's no word yet on casting details, but it will likely be announced at a later depending on how the early development goes.
