Cable Ratings: Mayans M.C. and The Purge Premiere Well

at . Comments

There were two big premieres on the cable landscape on Tuesday night, but how did they fare?

With Mayans M.C. being the spin-off of Sons of Anarchy, all eyes were on it to find out if viewers were interested in a new series set in the universe.

Thankfully, it performed well.

In Flux - Mayans M.C.

Mayans M.C. Season 1 Episode 1 achieved 2.5 million viewers and a 1.0 rating among adults 18-49.

Those figures are down considerably from Sons of Anarchy at its peak, but they are on par with Sons of Anarchy Season 1's average (2.2 million viewers).

We also need to take into consideration that non-linear viewing has spiked considerably since Sons of Anarchy was last on the air.

With that considered, this is a solid launch, and the delayed viewing figures will likely propel the series even further.

The true test will be whether the show can keep viewers tuning in every week. Much like SOA, the opener received a mixed response from critics.

Elsewhere, the highly anticipated TV adaptation of The Purge Season 1 Episode 1 launched with 1.4 million viewers and a 0.6 rating.

The movie franchise is still ongoing so a TV adaptation was always going to come with drawbacks, but the ratings are solid nonetheless.
