Grey's Anatomy Round Table: Are Owen and Amelia Better Off as Friends?

at .

Grey's Anatomy is back for its fifteenth season, and so is our panel of Grey's Fanatics.

Grey's Anatomy Season 15 Episode 1 and Grey's Anatomy Season 15 Episode 2 were solid hours of the series and started the season off on a strong footing.

Join Rachelle Lewis, Stacy Glanzman, Paul Dailly, and Kim Russell, as they discuss the premiere!

Alex is the new Interim Chief. React!

Rachelle: I love that Alex is interim chief. I think it will be a great challenge for him. Bailey wants the job back eventually and, in all likelihood, Alex will realize it takes him away from his love of pediatrics too much.

In the meantime, it will be entertaining to watch him fight with his colleagues and deal with all the bureaucracy that he has never been a fan of in the past. It's just funny that Alex of all people is now chief. The character has come a long way in 15 years that's for sure.

Stacy: It could be interesting, but I hope we still see Alex in the OR too. I felt that last season did not do him justice in that regard, and he's not the type who would be satisfied with a desk job. Considering this is just a temporary gig, I can see it working for a while.

I just don't understand the point of bringing Teddy back if she's not going to be working at the hospital.

I know they brought her back to stir up drama between Owen and Amelia, but how do they explain her sticking around if she's not working there? I guess they're just going to have her be Maggie's patient instead, but you would think she would find a doctor at another hospital to avoid them.

Paul: It was a real surprise, but one in which I can get on board. The Alex of Grey's Anatomy Season 1 would have been a terrible interim chief, but he's developed a lot over the years. It makes more sense to have Alex as the chief as opposed to Teddy.

Kim: I've always loved Alex, even when he was a douche, so I'm glad he's interim chief. He's going to have a good time in the position. You could tell by the way he was spinning in the chair. What irks me a little is that Bailey was advised to pick a third or fourth string; someone who wouldn't be good enough to take her job.

Since she chose Alex, that's a slight against him. Because of that, I hope he does a bang-up job and makes her fight for her job back. Although, I wouldn't want him to keep it because he's great in peds, and I want him to stay there.

What are your thoughts on the new docs, Link and Nico?

Rachelle: I don’t have too many thoughts on Nico. He was OK. I do like that he is interested in Levi Schmidt. It's cute, and I think the pairing has potential.

I was not a fan of Link at all, and I wanted to be because Chris Carmack is so talented. I know he is the “ortho god,” but he came on way too strong. I assume it was supposed to be charming, but it was too much for me. That being said he did have some nice banter with Meredith, so I'm hoping the character grows on me.

Stacy: I really liked Link, which is surprising because I almost never like new Grey's characters when they're introduced. It usually takes them a while to grow on me, but there was something about him that was different and refreshing. I thought he was going to be a cocky jerk, but he's not. He's a team player who cares about his patients.

As for Nico, I like him too, but he didn't get as much screen time, so it's harder to make an initial assessment. He has potential, and I'm looking forward to seeing more of both characters.

Paul: Link annoyed the hell out of me. All I wanted was for someone to say, "Welcome to Grey Sloane Memorial, bitch!"

As for Nico, I laughed out loud when he shared that glance with Levi. Levi did not know where to look, but I'm guessing the show is gearing up for some sort of pairing.

Kim: Link looks like he walked right off the cover of a beachy romance novel. I liked him. He's funny, a little cocky, and I think he'll bring a different energy into the hospital. He might be the next old Alex.

I didn't really get a sense of Nico. He seemed to be brooding the whole episode, except when he winked at Levi.

Will Cece successfully find Meredith a new love?

Rachelle: Meredith is finding love this year, but I am not sure CeCe will find it for her.

Stacy: I'd prefer if they brought back Scott Speedman as a love interest for Meredith, but if that's not happening, then sure, why not? CeCe's going through a lot health-wise and needs a project to keep her mind off of all of that, so I think it's something that could be good for both of them.

Paul: Agreed about Scott Speedman, Stacy! There was so much chemistry between Ellen Pompeo and Speedman that it would be silly not to try and bring their characters together again.

Kim: Cece might lead her in the right direction and really open her up to the possibility. Mer says she's open already, but she's not. I'd like to see her happy and in love again, but I hope they don't put her with DeLuca. Nothing against him, but that's just not a good pairing.

Which character improved the most?

Rachelle: Hands down, Jo has improved the most. She found her confidence -- her voice, and is not afraid to let people know she is ridiculously smart. I think the fact Bailey funded a fellowship for Jo’s research shows how she has gone from abused wife afraid of setting down roots, to a doctor that might change medicine.

Stacy: I agree, it's definitely Jo. She used to be one of the most obnoxious characters on TV, but now she's pretty much a rock star. She's a great example of a character I initially didn't like that has since grown on me. I'm glad they found a way to keep her in Seattle without sacrificing her career.

Paul: Amelia. I never could stand her, and I felt awful about it when I learned about her brain tumor. Now that I know her outbursts were not all her fault, she's improved in many ways.

Kim: I'm jumping on the Jo train, although Amelia was awfully adorable in this episode. Jo is coming into her own, and she was so focused and excited by her new medical discovery. Plus, she and Alex have gelled, and there's a whole vibe with her now that's mature, confident., completely different from Jo of the past.

How do you feel about Omelia reuniting again? Will they remain together when the found out about Teddy's pregnancy?

Rachelle: I really like Owen and Amelia together, but their reunion is just a tease. I think once Teddy’s pregnancy news gets out, it'll break them up. I hope it doesn’t, and they work through a less than ideal situation together for a change.

Amelia does seem more invested in the relationship this time around, but she also spooks easily, so I am leaning towards a short-lived reunion.

Stacy: I can't stand this storyline. I hate love triangles, and I'm not at all excited to see how this one plays out. I was more interested in the idea of Owen and Amelia raising the foster kids together, but without the relationship aspect. They've been there, done that, and it didn't work out. I don't particularly want to go there again.

It'll be even worse if they break up again over Teddy being pregnant. If Owen's feelings are for Amelia and not Teddy, adding a baby to the mix shouldn't change that.

Paul: Yeah, this storyline is not great. I dare say Owen will want to get back together with Teddy when he learns the real reason for her return. I liked that Amelia put all of the cards on the table. Who would have thought Koracick of all people would be the voice of reason?

Kim: I don't know. Owen has a bad track record, and he still has feelings for Teddy.

Once he finds out she's carrying his child; it's going to be a problem. I would hate to see Amelia struggling with drugs again because of Owen/baby drama. What they're doing right now seems to be working, and I don't think they should make the "together with strings" leap.

Doting Daddy - Grey's Anatomy Season 15 Episode 1

What would you grade the premiere, and what do you hope to see this season?

Rachelle: I give the premiere a C, but I am not sure I can put into words why. There was something missing from the premiere. The stories did not hold my attention; I was not as invested as I have been in the past. I was honestly bored watching it.

However, I do have hopes for this season that the premiere was setting up good episodes to come. The previews of Alex in over his head next week look so good. I don’t know what I want to see for this season, I just hope it gets better.

Stacy: I'd give it a B+. I enjoyed the cases and the additions of the new doctors. I am also intrigued by Jackson's new spiritual journey, and the whole thing with DeLuca saving everyone's lives was funny. In a way, Jackson actually saved his own life, he was the one who wouldn't let DeLuca call in sick!

I'm just docking the episode because of the Owen/Teddy/Amelia stuff. If Teddy really wanted to keep her secrets to herself, she should have gone to Mercy West.

Paul: I'd give it a B. It successfully set up the season ahead and had the usual humor mixed with engrossing medical mysteries. I hope that Meredith really does find love, Alex does well at his new post, and Jo manages to make her fellowship a success.

What I don't wish for is convoluted relationship drama. This show has taken some of the characters so far through the mill that it's difficult to imagine them being surprised by any more drama on the relationship side of things.

Kim: I give it a B. I'm glad Alex and Jo didn't leave. I was happy to see Jackson and the support he's getting from Maggie on his beliefs.

I was confused as to why they added two new doctors when I thought the reason for getting rid of April and Arizona was because there were too many characters to track and the storylines were suffering.

The intern's crush on Meridith appeared a little forced, so that was annoying. Plus they were making it seem like Teddy was back, which I was excited about, but that lasted all of 10 minutes, and she's gone again.

I'm curious to see Jackson's journey because we just lost April, and it'll be interesting to watch him struggle with faith. I'm also looking forward to seeing Meredith find love, or at least try. She's a tough nut to crack, so it should be interesting.

Meredith: DeLuca, what are you doing here?
DeLuca: Whatever you want. Dr. Grey.
Jackson: Morning.
Meredith: Jackson, what? No. You're with Maggie.
