It's not at all clear where things are headed, but it feels like a definite reboot is in the air.

There was also a fairly inept Iron Man knockoff as part of a Bonnie and Clyde pairing on NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 2.

Let's touch on the forgettable case of the week later, if Marvel Comics hasn't found a way to sue it out of existence by then.

It seems like some kind of change is coming to the Office of Special Projects, and that would start at the top.

It turned out that Admiral Kilbride wasn't just there at Hetty's behest. He was there to shut down the office.

Neither Hetty nor Mosley were seen, so likely the Mexican fiasco was the one off-the-book operation too many.

Mosley was Hetty's boss (notice I refused to use the term "superior"). The Mexican mess was to rescue her son. So, yes, she should go down in flames.

Will she? Well, she's still in the opening credits. But that could be quickly re-edited.

What about Hetty? Granted, some of the shit her team has pulled through the years wouldn't have been tolerated in the real world. But TV isn't the real world. And, as Kilbride noted, they get results.

The whole Vietnam adventure on NCIS: Los Angeles Season 9 made me wonder if Linda Hunt had had enough and wanted out or if she just wanted a reprieve.

I figured Mosley had been brought in to replace Hetty. But she was such a repugnant character, one who never evolved, so that wasn't going to work out.

Now the start to this season has me mulling this situation again. I mean, Kilbride's big question to Callen is whether the team could survive without Hetty. From that, the direction seems obvious.

So let's explore life without Hetty.

One possibility would be to put Kilbride in command. I was hoping A.J. Chegwidden would become Hetty's No. 2. But Kilbride does give off that same irascible-curmudgeon vibe as Chegwidden.

It's been fun watching him interact with Eric and Nell in Ops. But we haven't gotten to see him do much with the rest of the team yet.

His driving away before the team gathered at the end makes me think that he's going to be recurring at most.

So if not Mosley, if not Hetty, if not Kilbride, then who?

Sam?

Of the existing team members, he would be the most sensible choice. He's the field leader, and he has earned the respect of the entire team.

But his strength is also his weakness. If you take Sam out of the field, it weakens the team in the field, even though he would still be providing tactical commands.

Also, he wouldn't have the patience for all the bureaucratic bullshit, and they would soon be circumnavigating protocol again, which got them in trouble in the first place. Plus, unlike the past veteran leaders, he doesn't know where all the bodies are buried.

The only upside I see about putting Sam in command is that it would free up room for DeChamps.

Of all the outside substitutes in recent seasons, she would be the best fit for the team. My first choice would be to promote Nell to field agent and give Eric a young helper in Ops. But I don't really want to mess up Neric (Nah, that doesn't work as well as Densi).

Sam and DeChamps get along swimmingly. They've got a brother-and-sister feel now, but who knows? Maybe that could develop into something more.

So it could be Callen and DeChamps. Or mix things up by pairing boys and girls.

But that's likely a pipe dream. Instead, one of the three leaders listed above will be in command. Please don't let it be Mosley.

Things were moving nicely on the personal front. Eric asked Nell to move in with him when I feared he was about to take an outside job. Densi was again talking wedding details. And Callen was about to take the apartment over their bar. The brawls at Deeks' Dive won't last long, will they?

I'm not sure that Sam and Callen's coffee with Hidoko's mother-in-law was leading anywhere. It was more a people-who-don't-remember-history-are-doomed-to-repeat-it moment, as she brought up the Japanese detainment camps in World War II in a time when innocent people some fear are again being locked up in this country.

Not subtle, but timely nevertheless.

As for the case of the week, let me summarize it. Robocop will soon move from science fiction to science fact. But the technology still requires at least one brain to make it work, not a couple of multiple-time losers.
