Teresa Mendoza will continue to fight for her empire on the small screen.
USA Network has handed a fourth season renewal to the addictive summer thriller which wrapped its third season just weeks ago.
With the renewal now official, we also know that Dailyn Rodriguez and Ben Lobato have been promoted to co-showrunners effective from the fourth season.
Both Rodriguez and Lobato are not new to the series, with each of them having creative input in earlier seasons of the show.
This news means that Natalie Chaidez is leaving the series behind, and the now-former showrunner has confirmed the reason for her decision.
“After 2 incredible years working with USA Network at the helm of ‘Queen of the South,’ I’m moving on to develop my own projects full-time with my friends at Fox and Fox 21 Television Studios,” she said in a statement when the renewal was announced.
“I will miss the ‘QOTS’ familia and fans, but I am proud to pass along the baton and champion the growth of co-showrunners Dailyn Rodriguez and Ben Lobato.”
Queen of the South is based on the best-selling novel, “La Reina Del Sur,” and follows a woman struggling to make ends meet who goes to extreme lengths to build a viable future for herself.
It has been a solid option in the ratings department for USA Network since its launch in 2016. Queen of the South Season 3 had 1.1 million viewers and a 0.4 rating among adults 18-49.
This was right on par with the show's previous two seasons. In today's climate in which most shows seem to be dropping, it's rare for one to remain steady.
It explains why USA Network is keeping it around. In live+ same day ratings, it's the third highest-rated series on the network.
No premiere date has been given for the fourth season, but it will likely be at some point next summer.
