Hawaii Five-0 Season 9 Episode 6 Review: Aia i Hi'ikua; i Hi'ialo (Is Borne on the Back; Is Borne in the Arms)

at .

Adam's back, definitely the worse for wear.

And he was right smack in the middle of a storyline on Hawaii Five-0 Season 9 Episode 6.

Shockingly, someone is trying to set him up.

McGarrett Is Arrested - Hawaii Five-0

I sure couldn't see that coming. Could you?

So someone planted that gun at Adam's house, the gun that's had Tani in an ethical tizzy since late last season.

The gun that she appealed to Captain Keo to test off the books for her.

That likely same someone then tipped Five-0 about the gun being at Adam's, where Tani had returned it just that morning. Convenient, huh?

It likely wasn't a coincidence that Duke showed up with the search warrant that day. After all, before then, there was no Adam on whom to serve the warrant.

Was it a coincidence that it happened on the day that the gun was returned? It would have to be unless someone was watching his house and timing the tip.

Bad Undercover Work - Hawaii Five-0 Season 9 Episode 6

Fortunately, Adam had sobered up enough to find the gun and hide it before Duke arrived.

Then he confronted Tani and together they determined that someone was setting up Adam. Which should have occurred to Tani months ago.

The powers that be can ride this storyline for months, as Adam has made lots of enemies from his Yakuza days to present.

First up is the question of what to do with the gun next? The chain of custody has already been blown out of the water. So what do Tani and Adam have to lose by going to McGarrett, who has been known to be creative on that front?

Hell, he just got busted for tampering with evidence this very episode. So he can't come down on them too hard.

Speaking of another predictable storyline, Adam and Kono have split. This was inevitable, with her stateside tracking sex traffickers and him an unofficial member of Five-0.

Caught in the Act - Hawaii Five-0 Season 9 Episode 6

"We're different people now," to paraphrase Adam.

Yeah, Grace Park is now Katherine on "A Million Little Things" while Adam is seeking a civilian seeking a role that actually feels organic instead of thrown together on the task force.

We can debate the merits of that situation until the pipi come home, but what's done is done. Let's think of Grace/Kono fondly but remember that TV shows can evolve and still thrive. If done right.

It was great that it fell on Danny to give Adam the pep talk about divorce. Right after throwing water on him. But that's Danny. Tough love and all that.

Danny was correct when he said that Adam could have a lot to offer Five-0, leading to the funny drunken man hug.

But for that to happen, they must first solve Noriko's murder, to get Adam out from under that cloud of suspicion.

Crossing Jurisdictions - Hawaii Five-0 Season 9 Episode 6

Now back to Carson Rodes, or the Five-0 member who never was, since he enjoyed the mercenary lifestyle too much.

It was good to see Eddie Cahill (CSI: New York) if only alive in a handful of flashbacks.

Of course, Steve was going to defy jurisdiction in order to clear his friend's name. When doesn't he defy jurisdiction? His islands, his rules.

One of the best scenes was when Jerry and Grover tried to infiltrate the NCIS hanger to get a look at Carson's Cessna. Five-0 must have a huge wardrobe department, for Jerry to find mechanic's coveralls and Grover an NTSB jacket, both in big and tall sizes.

Emma Warren was an enjoyable foil for McGarrett. She got to handle all the bickering that usually Danny's stock in trade, with Danny sitting back and LHAO. They even got in a full-blown cargument.

It was good to see someone call Steve on his shit, if only for a short time, before the governor bailed him out.

The sparks flew between them, and she appeared to be posted at NCIS: Hawaii. So could she become McGarrett's new romantic interest? She isn't a Chinese spy, like Greer on Hawaii Five-0 Season 9 Episode 1, so that's got to be a plus.

As for the case itself, McGarrett followed his gut about his friend, his gut was right again (unlike with Greer), case closed.

SPOILER ALERT: Hawaii Five-0 Season 9 Episode 7 looks to be a fun one, featuring a flashback-filled cold case first investigated by McGarrett's grandfather, with the present-day cast filling old roles.

How did you like Emma? Any surprises on the Adam front? Who didn't suspect the tech mogul as soon as he appeared?
