Nathan Fillion's TV comeback has been expanded.
ABC has ordered a full season of The Rookie, placing an order for seven additional installments of the procedural drama.
The Rookie Season 1 launched on October 16 to 5.4 million total viewers and a 1.0 rating in the demo and is currently averaging 4.8 million viewers and a 0.9 rating.
Despite the soft on-air ratings, the series is a minor improvement over last year's time period occupant, Kevin (Probably) Saves the World.
Networks have notoriously been ordering fewer episodes to make up full seasons, and much of that is down to creative reasons.
"Starting over isn’t easy, especially for small-town guy John Nolan who, after a life-altering incident, is pursuing his dream of being an LAPD officer," reads the official logline.
"As the force’s oldest rookie, he’s met with skepticism from some higher-ups who see him as just a walking midlife crisis."
"If he can’t keep up with the young cops and the criminals, he’ll be risking lives including his own. But if he can use his life experience, determination and sense of humor to give him an edge, he may just become a success in this new chapter of his life."
The talented cast also includes Alyssa Diaz as Angela Lopez, Richard T. Jones as Sergeant Wade Grey, Titus Makin as Jackson West, Mercedes Mason as Captain Zoe Andersen, Melissa O'Neil as Lucy Chen, Afton Williamson as Talia Bishop and Eric Winter as Tim Bradford.
