Magnum P.I. Season 1 Episode 12 Review: Winner Takes All

at .  Updated at .

And the winner is Magnum.

He might not have gotten a monetary reward for solving Barry's murder on Magnum P.I. Season 1 Episode 12, but money is never the reason Magnum takes on any case.

He takes all factors into consideration and while he would love to have cash in hand, most times it doesn't work that way.

Luther and Willa - Magnum P.I. Season 1 Episode 12

At least he gets something to show for his work, though.

Live chickens and a new grill won't pay the bills, but things always seem to work out for Magnum.

He's got good karma on his side, and all the good he puts out in the universe comes back to him in spades.

And he's got his family who's always there to support him.

Even Higgins.

I don't know how Higgins found out about Magnum's mother, but she did, and it was a factor in her decision to help him with his case.

I've said this before, but she has to be spending her downtime investigating every aspect of Magnum's life because she keeps finding out interesting tidbits that he would never have shared with her otherwise.

You hear that Willa? Luther's idea of a private investigator is someone who has no friends and drives a boring car.

And while he didn't divulge much when Higgins first brought it up, he eventually shared the entire story with her as I knew he would.

Getting Ready - Magnum P.I. Season 1 Episode 12

Whose heart didn't melt when she told him how proud his mother would have been of him?

She's trying to connect with him on a different level, and while he's trying to play coy, there are feelings brewing.

He lingered on her for a bit while thinking about how lucky he was to have friends who were like family, and he recognizes that she's slowly tearing open that metal shield he has around his heart.

Higgins also doesn't put up much of a fight when he asks for favors.

She tries her best, but he knows that she's going to give in, and he'll get what he needs and wants from her.

It just the nature of how his relationship with her has developed.

Besides, she wants to be involved, but I've said that before, too.

Jumping into Powder - Magnum P.I. Season 1 Episode 12

She would have let him borrow her car after the Ferrari was repossessed, but she found great pleasure in seeing Magnum riding Kumu's Vespa.

She loves embarrassing him and making him uncomfortable, but he's such a laid back guy he can roll with anything.

It was hilarious watching him drive down the highway on his new ride because he looked absolutely ridiculous.

Rick: Curious? Do you even take cash anymore?
Magnum: Yeah, it has been a while, but, you know, I get some cool things sometimes.
Rick: You mean, like chickens?
Magnum: No, I mean like this grill.

What was even better was when Luther had to tag along behind him after they were conned by Willa -- especially because they had on matching shirts!

Willa was a crafty and entertaining private investigator-in-training, and now that Halston Sage is gone from The Orville, it would be cool to see her show up on Magnum PI from time to time.

Luther probably wouldn't be happy that his protege went to work with his competitor, but she would be a great addition to Magnum's team.

She's sassy and smart, and I can see all the fun her and Higgins could have if they teamed up.

Kumu also needs to get more involved in cases.

She's obviously smarter than all of them (except maybe Higgins) and not just because she was the one who figured out how to put the grill together after TC's numerous failed attempts.

Bad Bail Bondsman - Magnum P.I. Season 1 Episode 12

If Higgins spent some time training her, she would be kickass in every way.

She already knows how to use a gun or at least point it at someone.

Who knows what other skills she has tucked away that would be useful to Team Magnum!

Once again Magnum P.I. hits all the feels with an episode that showed us that family is what you make it and that the rewards in life don't necessarily need to come in the form of dollar bills.
