An extremely fun part of the show is keeping an eye out for little Easter eggs from the books that have been woven throughout the television series.
For example, dedicated readers will know that the episode "A Window Into an Empty Room" was actually named after Clary's internal monologue when she looked into Jace's eyes and realized he was no longer himself.
While we love what the show has taken from Clare's novels so far, no matter how big or small, there are some scenes from the book that we just need to witness on our screens.
And for those of you who have not read Cassandra Clare's The Mortal Instruments, well, first of all, what are you doing?! But be warned the following slide show may contain some mild spoilers from the book series you should be planning to read if you haven't already.
With that in mind, check out 11 book scenes from The Mortal Instruments that we need and watch Shadowhunters online to see if we get them!
1.
Jace and Simon go grocery shopping
This was quite honestly the best scene out of all The Mortal Instrument books. Simon went all mother hen when he found out Jace hadn't eaten and took him to the grocery store. Their shopping trip was hilarious and Simon was appalled to find out that Jace didn't know what a mango was.
2.
All of Aline Penhallow's scenes in general
Aline is too awesome of a character not to be heavily featured in the show. And if her girlfriend Helen Blackthorn also wanted to make a cameo we would be 100% on board.

Clary, Jace, Simon, Isabelle, and Alec's adventure to Edom
So many amazing things happened on this trip we can't even name them all. Relationships bloomed and blossomed, there were beautiful parabatai moments, and it was action packed from start to finish.

The introduction of Emma and the Blackthorns
If Shadowhunters has to be canceled (which we still don't accept) at least give us The Dark Artifices so we can still see our faves once in a while. But before that could ever happen, we'd have to be introduced to the main characters of the trilogy. Fortunately, they are just as awesome as the Shadowhunters characters we know and love.

Simon tells Izzy the plot of Star Wars to help her fall asleep
Simon using Star Wars to soothe someone to sleep isn't at all surprising. The surprising part is that Izzy actually remembered everything he told her. Now we just need Magnus there to drop the, "ah, nerd love," line.
6.
The transformation of Brother Zachariah
We need Jem Carstairs in our life, plain and simple. He is a giant ball of goodness that can shed light on any troubling situation.

Magnus and Alec's trip to Paris
While we didn't technically get to see this trip (yet) we would give so much for Shadowhunters to just go all out and give us the Malec vacation they deserve.
8.
Simon feeds off of Alec
Simon and Alec's friendship in the books is hilarious, to say the least. They have so many great scenes that unfortunately haven't made it onto the show, so if they were going to pick just one to feature, this would be the best choice.
9.
A certain someone's ascension
While we'll keep exactly who ascends into a Shadowhunter a secret just in case some non-readers stuck around, it is an epic scene that is vital to the character moving forward.
10.
The cave scene ft. Jace and Clary
If you've read the books there's no way you don't know what we're talking about and why it needs to be included. We'll just leave it at that.
11.
The real Jonathan comes out
Underneath all that demon blood is just a regular guy who wants to do good. Getting to witness Jonathan in that state, even if it was just for a minute, made all the difference in the world.
What's done is done. I'm a vampire. You're a shadowhunter. Maybe that's supposed to mean something, but you're still you, and I'm still me. Sort of. Enough, anyway.
