Emily Deschanel is leaving broadcast TV in her rear-view mirror.
The in-demand alum has landed a major role on TNT's Animal Kingdom, according to Deadline.
Deschanel is tapped to appear as a woman from Julia's past. She's aiming to find a place in the Cody family, but each of the family members has their own beef with her.
While Angela is claiming to be on the straight and narrow, she will find herself under permanent suspicion by Smurf.
Described as a "scrappy and manipulative" junkie, it quickly emerges that she was Julia's one-time drug buddy.
However, the aim of her game is to get her claws into Pope, and there's no telling whether she'll be successful or if the family will see through her.
This will mark Deschanel's big return to the small screen following her 12 season stint on Bones.
Deschanel has kept a relatively low profile since the Fox procedural wrapped in 2017, but she did a voice stint in an episode of The Simpsons last year.
She joins a cast that already includes Ellen Barkin, Shawn Hatosy, Ben Robson, Jake Weary, Finn Cole.
Animal Kingdom Season 4 will likely get underway this summer. Animal Kingdom Season 3 focused on the aftermath of Baz's death.
Deschanel is a seasoned actress, but this role sounds like a big departure for her ... in a good way.
Many probably thought the actress would return to the small screen by leading the cast of one of the new series.
But Animal Kingdom is not as big of a commitment as a broadcast drama. Cable shows notoriously run fewer episodes, and that could have helped in the decision making process.
