Cobie Smulders to Star in ABC Pilot Based on Stumptown Graphic Novel

Cobie Smulders is leaving her Friends from College behind. 

The popular actress has landed the lead role on ABC drama pilot Stumptown, according to Variety

She will take on the role of Dex Parios, a smart and resourceful private investigator in her hometown of Portland, Oregon.

"Dex Parios is a strong, assertive and unapologetically sharp-witted Army veteran working as a P.I. in Portland, OR. With a complicated personal history and only herself to rely on, she solves other people’s messes with a blind eye toward her own," reads the official logline for the series.

Smulders is probably most well-known for her role as Robin Scherbatsky on CBS comedy series, How I Met Your Mother. 

If the pilot goes to series, it will mark Smulders' first regular role on broadcast TV since her nine-year stint on the comedy series. 

Jason Richman will pen the Stumptown pilot, and will executive produce alongside Ruben Fleischer, Dave Bernad, Greg Rucka, Matthew Southworth, and Justin Greenwood.

Stumptown joins fellow drama pilots The Baker and the Beauty, Heart of Life, The Hypnotist's Love Story, New York Undercover, NYPD Blue, Triangle, Until The Wedding, and the untitled Hank Steinberg/Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson Project at ABC. 

Yes, ABC has a lot of shows in the pipeline for 2019-20, and that could mean that a lot of shows from the current season will be given the pink slip. 

Smulders is coming off a two-season stint on Netflix's Friends from College.

The streamer opted to cancel it after two seasons. While no official reason was given, it's expected that it could be down to the show's mediocre reviews. 

Netflix rarely releases ratings, so it's unclear whether the ratings played a large part in the decision.
