How to Get Away with Murder Season 5 Episode 14 Review: Make Me the Enemy

at .  Updated at .

So, what you're telling me is, we didn't leave this Castillo drama in How To Get Away With Murder Season 4

It was obvious there was going to be some misdirection and the path to Emmett the killer would have some holes in it, but I must say I am surprised that we're bringing in another Castillo bad guy.

So yes, spoiler alert, if you weren't able to catch the last few frames of How to Get Away with Murder Season 5 Episode 14, you've been warned.

Shocked Annalise - How To Get Away With Murder Season 5 Episode 14

Before we get into the introduction of another Castillo, let's talk about Emmett and Annalise as their passive-aggressive flirting was easily the highlight of the hour.

Emmett has been painted unevenly at best. To this point of the series, his byline would read: Emmett Crawford was a pushover, who had a thing for Annalise Keating.

His attraction to Annalise was once again on full display, but this was one of the first times Emmett took charge.

Deciding to run for DA was a bit shady, given what we were lead to believe about his involvement in Nate Senior's death, but it showed a tenacity we haven't seen much.

Annalise's goal was to crack Emmett like he was on the stand. Their dinner was tension-filled and awkward, but it was also the first time I felt any kind of spark between them, even if it was laced with disdain on Annalise's part.

It only got more heated when he showed up on her doorstep, and it was in that moment I knew the man who met with Nate Senior wasn't going to be Emmett.

Emmett may be a lot of the things Annalise pointed out, but I don't think he was making all these moves behind the scenes to ruin Annalise and Nate. It just doesn't add up.

And these two would make an abhorrent couple, but I think he did have feelings for Annalise.

You know, before you she told him all about himself and made sure whatever pride he had left after that date got completely obliterated.

Now, if Emmett was innocent, then the slimy lawyer, as Nate Senior described, had to be someone we know, right?

Of course not!

When the man finally showed his face, all we got was a grainy photo of an attractive man that only makes Frank's eyes bulge out of his head.

And now we know that could only mean one thing.

He's a Castillo!

I have personally liked that we moved away from Laurel and her crazy family for most of the season, but bringing them back into focus just shy of the finale, tells me that they've been a part of this saga all along.

And if that is indeed true, then have they been working with the governor all along?

If Emmett really got framed, it seems plausible to consider that Xavier had something to do with that.

But as we asked ourselves something last week when Emmett got presented to us as a killer.

What does Xavier gain by killing Nate Senior?

Gabriel Muses - How To Get Away With Murder Season 5 Episode 14

It's a hard question to dive into as we know next to nothing about the man, but maybe it has something to do with Laurel's mother.

The two subplots involving Gabriel and Michaela and Connor, Oliver, and Asher trying to get Oliver's laptop back from the FBI weren't terribly entertaining.

But getting the laptop back did allow the students to see Operation Bonfire in all its glory.

The reactions to the discovery were terrific. Of course, there was some shock and awe, but at the same time, a piece of them always had to know this was coming.

Others have been close before, but Telesco has her theory well mapped out.

She needs someone to piece all of the puzzle pieces together, so they stick.

Gabriel can't exactly do that, but bringing him into the fold now could pay off for her if she plays her cards right.

Everything Else You Need To Know

  • I'm trying to care about the plight of Laurel's family, but it's pretty tough.
  • I'm going to need some clarification on Miller's role in everything during the finale. Was he a bad guy or what?
  • Gabriel's cynicism of Michaela's story was sad, but can you blame him for not trusting her? He's a liar; she's a liar; everyone's a liar. It has to be hard to recognize those fleeting moments when someone is letting their guard down.
  • Speaking of Gabriel, now that he has seemingly linked up with Telesco, my money is one on one of those two not making it out of this season alive.
  • Tegan has come on strong these last few episodes and stepped up as an ally for Annalise. Here's to hoping nothing happens to her and that killer wardrobe next week!

Okay, guys, we are almost to the end of another twisty season of our favorite nighttime soap opera.

There is still a lot of ground to cover in just sixty minutes, and I want to know what answers you guys need.

Do you think we will see another murder before seasons end?

Are the governor and the Castillo's working together?

Will we ever find out what happened to Laurel's mother?

And do we care at this point?

I want to hear all your theories down below so please drop me a line and watch How to Get Away with Murder online right now so you can join us in the comments!

How to Get Away with Murder Season 5 Episode 14 Quotes

I'm telling you to use the gift your mama gave you. Or drive yourself crazy with not knowing.

Tegan [to Annalise]

Gabriel: Look, I...I'm just really confused right now. I feel alone.
Annalise: It's called adulthood, Gabriel. Every single one of us is alone all the time. Accept it now and you'll save yourself a lot of pain later.
Gabriel: Thanks for the advice.
