Legacies Season 1 Episode 11 Review: We're Gonna Need a Spotlight

at .  Updated at .

With mind-controlling slugs, musical numbers, fun moments, unicorns, shocking twists, and some relationship drama, Legacies Season 1 Episode 11 will go down as one of my favorite episodes to date.

I expected there to be more to that beautiful unicorn showing up at the school than Dorian, Alaric, and Hope letting the legendary creature get a free pass because of how cute it is.

Two Brothers - Legacies Season 1 Episode 11

I have to hand it to whoever is after the urn; they mostly fooled the characters into thinking they could have a much-deserved break. It turns out the supernatural world doesn't adhere to labor laws.

Having a unicorn that brought mind-controlling slugs to the school was probably the most creative villain yet. It's amazing how the unicorn lured our favorites into a false sense of security before pulling the rug from under them.

You're all getting detention.

Dorian

Having the teens and some of the adults lower their inhibitions presented us with some new conflicts for them, but it also showed how reserved some of them are.

The confident and fun-loving Hope was exciting because this teenager has struggled to connect with people. It's down to her traumatic past, for sure, and it was exciting watching her come into her own and interact with people she would not usually.

Getting Closer - Legacies

In the process, she got closer to Rafael, solidifying the fact that the creative forces are intent on making the love triangle canon. It's a disappointing direction, especially when you consider how well Hope gets on with both boys.

Julie Plec has a thing for having lead characters fight over brothers. Out of the three, Rafael started Legacies Season 1 as my least favorite, but he's slowly growing on me.

Revealing his feelings while under the influence of the slug was predictable, and I'm glad that Landon is now starting to question him about things. That look of uncertainty on Landon's face after checking in with Raf at the close of the hour confirmed that these two are going to be against each other pretty soon.

Rafael Chats with Landon - Legacies Season 1 Episode 9

My one real hope here is that the love triangle doesn't take over the whole show. The Vampire Diaries managed to weave the love triangle together with the main plots for its first two seasons. After that, it felt forced.

Hopefully, the powers that be have learned from the mistakes from that show. It would be cruel to put fans through all this drama again.

I was oddly happy about the other love triangle. I figured there would be a pairing between Alaric and Emma from the get-go, and their day of playing hooky showed that there's more to their relationship than meets the eye.

Hope: Hey, wait.
Dorian: It's a monster, Hope.
Hope: You're not seriously suggesting we kill a unicorn.

I predicted Alaric wasn't under the influence of the slugs the moment he vetoed Emma's plan to take the urn to the river. It helped Emma realize that his feelings for her were real, but it also put her in an awkward position with Dorian.

Alaric's Decision - Legacies Season 1 Episode 9

I never thought Alaric and Dorian would become love rivals, but they are. Their friendship spans years, and they rely on each other to solve crimes. Having them against each other will make for an interesting dynamic because there's no way Dorian would leave the school in the lurch with Malivore in full swing.

Alaric being the one to get the final slug and give Malivore the urn was excellent storytelling. As the head of the school, it's going to cause a lot of complications. He's not going to be able to throw the blame at anyone.

He's going to have to take accountability for these actions, even though he was not in control. Simply put, this is going to eat him up.

Landon: So, Lizzie's acting weird.
Rafael: She's not the only one.
Hope: Babe, we should do a talent.
Landon: What? You and me?
Hope: I never wanted to before because I would have to do it alone, but now I have you. And we make up our own faction. The tribrid and you.

It makes me wonder what the third part of Malivore is. With two pieces of the puzzle returned to the mystical place, the only logical conclusion is that Landon is the final piece.

Mischief Time - Legacies Season 1 Episode 11

There's got to be a reason why he was the only person aside from Lizzie who did not get a slug sandwich for breakfast. I did think Hope would start to tell him some of the stuff about his mother to put his mind at ease, but they're in such a great place that she does not want to mess anything up.

With five episodes left, the creatures are likely going to become more and more manipulative. Landon is either going to be the ultimate savior or the ultimate villain, and I'm actually fretting over this.

He needs to learn everything, and help the school stay afloat. That's what I hope happens, but we've barely scratched the surface with TRIAD Industries. I still think the third reality from Legacies Season 1 Episode 10 could come true, minus the Klaus Mikaelson part.

He is dead, and there's no coming back from that ... at least until Joseph Morgan agrees to reprise his role.

The Show Must Go On - Legacies Season 1 Episode 11

Hell would have to freeze over for that to happen.

Lizzie was tolerable, and that's saying something. I liked her on Legacies Season 1 Episode 10, but I figured she would be back to her passive-aggressive comments.

I appreciated that she took the initiative to be a nicer person. In doing so, it allowed her to remain slug-free, and help save her friends and family. I don't think she's nasty on purpose.

It seems like she spews out the insults without so much as thinking about it. That's why she's using shock therapy so that she thinks of her actions before doing them. Whether it will help, I don't know.

But I thought it was beautiful that she elevated Josie to the lead singer during the talent show. Josie has spent most of Legacies Season 1 in her sister's shadow. It's about time she moved to the forefront and spoke up about what she wants to do as opposed to following her sister's lead.

I Didn't Do It! - Legacies Season 1 Episode 10

There were also some strides for Posie, so that was positive. I may be in the minority, but I loved the pair going on the mission to find the urn well away from the others.

Kaylee Bryant and Lulu Antariksa light up the screen as the two parts of the 'Ship. Antariska needs to get that series regular contract ahead of Legacies Season 2.
