New Amsterdam will be on the air during the 2019-20 TV season.

NBC has handed out an order for a sophomore run of the medical drama which has emerged as a solid addition to the network's Tuesday slate.

On the Move - New Amsterdam

“We’ve been so excited to see how much audiences have embraced Dr. Max Goodwin and all the characters that make New Amsterdam such an incredibly compelling medical series,” Lisa Katz and Tracey Pakosta, co-presidents of scripted programming for NBC Entertainment, said in a statement on Monday.

“Congratulations to [executive producers] David Schulner, Peter Horton, our writers and an amazing cast and crew who have brought these stories to life.”

New Amsterdam stars Ryan Eggold (The Blacklist) as Max Goodwin, a doctor who is trying to make sense of his cancer diagnosis while trying to change the medical system in one of the oldest public hospitals in America.

The ensemble also includes Freema Agyeman (Doctor Who), Janet Montgomery (Salem), Jocko Sims (The Last Ship), Anupam Kher (Sense8), and Tyler Labine (Reaper).

The renewal is a no-brainer, especially when you consider the fact that it has been a reliable performer on Tuesdays at 10/9c.

New Amsterdam Season 1 is currently averaging 6.2 million total viewers and a 1.3 rating in the adults 18-49 demo.

The show enjoys robust gains when delayed viewing is factored in.

It ranks as NBC's fourth highest-rated scripted series, narrowly beating Chicago Med.

NBC has yet to confirm the fate of Manifest.

Its average is slightly higher than New Amsterdam in both the demo and total viewers, but the high-concept thriller started higher and fell further post-premiere.

As of now, Manifest is looking good for renewal after managing to stabilize in recent weeks, but NBC could reserve judgment until the show wraps its first season in two weeks.
