Project Blue Book Season 1 Episode 6 Review: The Green Fireballs

at .

The mystery deepens.

Hynek thought he had the green fireballs all figured out on Project Blue Book Season 1 Episode 6, but neither meteors or Soviet spy devices made any sense to him.

And now that a man in a black hat gave him a mysterious object, he's going to start piecing it all together behind everyone's back except for Mimi -- which may end up being his biggest mistake ever.

Figuring it All Out - Project Blue Book Season 1 Episode 6

Hynek has no clue that Mimi's good friend Susie is a Soviet spy. He has no clue that the two of them snooped around his office or that Susie is listening in on his every conversation.

Mimi doesn't know any of this either except for the snooping, but I doubt that she's going to share that piece of information with her husband anytime soon.

He decided he's done keeping secrets from his wife so if she divulged what she and Susie did, he might just cut her off.

The problem is that she trusts Susie too much. Even if Allen tells her not to tell anyone about the Jenga-like object he showed her, she's not going to be able to resist telling Susie the latest.

Susie knows she's onto something big and is resisting every insistence by her "husband" to pack it all up and get out of Ohio.

One she learns of the mysterious object, she's going to be the toast of Soviet spy town.

What I don't get is why there was no communication happening in the Soviet spy world. If Susie reported that Hynek was at the New Mexico site, wouldn't there have been at least some acknowledgment that there was a spy already on base there so he could monitor exactly what Hynek and Quinn were doing?

Of course, there is the possibility that Sgt. Rizzuto is a double agent which complicates things. Secretary Fairchild seemed awfully familiar with Rizzuto, and I would guess that Harding and Valentine already know Rizzuto's game.

Also, Susie's "husband" isn't all that interested in Hynek anymore so he might not be reporting anything back to his boss's back home.

Yet, he decided to kill the Hyneks nosy neighbor just because she ran into them in a park. He's either paranoid or completely insane. Maybe both.

If you ever go behind my back with Fairchild again, you and I are going to have a very difficult conversation. Then I'll shitcan your ass so fast your head will spin.

Harding

There's no rhyme or reason to that guy, and he's put Susie in a precarious position by making her do the dirty work of disposing of the neighbor lady's body. She's going to leave some evidence behind that will eventually blow everything wide open.

I'm a little bothered by the fact that we never found out what happened between Quinn and Susie during their lunch interview. Did Quinn determine that Susie was no threat and drop the investigation? Did he sleep with her?

I also don't like the fact that Quinn can't figure out whose side he's on. He knows the Air Force is hiding something, yet he doesn't question anything else Harding throws his way.

Finding a Secret - Project Blue Book Season 1 Episode 6

I get that anything relating to Soviet spies would send him in a tizzy, but has he forgotten about the alien they found at the other Air Force base they were at recently?

Quinn isn't a stupid guy, but it's annoying that he doesn't question anything Harding tells him and continues to be the good soldier Harding expects him to be.

The paths he and Hynek are traveling down are becoming more divergent.

Hynek has been keeping secrets for a while, mostly because the things he's seen will make him look insane, but he also doesn't fully trust Quinn mostly because he knows Quinn is still Harding's lackey.

About every 75 years, Haley's Comet returns to us. On the day I was born, the comet flew closer to us than ever before. People were terrified. They thought it was an omen signifying the end of the world, but my mother didn't believe. She believed it was an omen, yes, but an omen unannounced by earth. She believed that I'd be a man of great accomplishments like a comet blazing across the sky, but the truth is, I never was.

Hynek

He also wants to find out the truth for himself first which very well might be an ego thing more than anything else. He's never seen himself as a man who has done anything significant, but now might be his chance.

However, he needs to realize that he needs Quinn on his side. He can't afford to have Quinn as an enemy and considering he's already been threatened by Harding, he needs Quinn more than ever.

He needs Quinn not only to protect him from Harding but to stave off the threat from Susie and her "husband." Hynek might get help from his men in black hats friends, but they're only interested in leading Hynek to the truth, not fighting his battles for him.

The mystery of the green fireballs never got resolved. The theories that they were meteors or Soviet spy devices could never be substantiated. There is also the belief that the fireballs were the aftereffects of nuclear testing, but that theory was never proven either.

However, experts agree that while the green fireballs are unidentified flying objects, they are not believed to be associated with aliens. Although, in the semi-fictional world of Project Blue Book anything is possible.

Over to you!

Will Mimi spill the beans to Susie? What do you think happened between Susie and Quinn?

Will Quinn become suspicious of Hynek? What is the object in Hynek's possession? Will he tell Quinn about it?
