Star Trek: Discovery Renewed for Season 3 With New Co-Showrunner

Star Trek: Discovery will not be grounded any time soon. 

CBS All Access has placed an order for a third season of the space-set, and there will be a big change at the wheel.

Co-executive producer Michelle Paradise has been upped to co-showrunner and will share the role with current showrunner Alex Kurtzman.

“Michelle joined us midway through Season 2 and energized the room with her ferocious knowledge of Trek,” Kurtzman said in a statement.

“Her grasp of character and story detail, her drive and her focus have already become essential in ensuring the Trek legacy, and her fresh perspective always keeps us looking forward. I’m proud to say Michelle and I are officially running Star Trek: Discovery together.”

Vertical Number One - Star Trek: Discovery Season 2 Episode 4

Paradise marks the latest big showrunner change on the hit series. 

Co-creator Bryan Fuller exited before the series premiered, and Gretchen J. Berg and Aaron Harberts were let go after Season 1, leaving Kurtzman as the sole showrunner.

"The massive success of Star Trek: Discovery's second- season launch exceeded our expectations in both driving subscriber growth and generating a phenomenal response from Star Trek fans,” said Julie McNamara, executive VP originals at CBS All Access.

Discovery is set roughly ten years before the events of Star Trek: The Original Series, the show features the united Klingon houses in a war with the United Federation of Planets that involves the crew of the USS Discovery.

The series currently airs on Thursdays, with new episodes being made available on CBS All Access.
