9-1-1 Season 2 Episode 11 Review: New Beginnings
Whitney Evans at . Updated at .That was a pretty wild ride.
When an episode starts with the skin of a woman's forehead falling over her eyes, you know you are in for something crazy. And 9-1-1 Season 2 Episode 11 did not disappoint!
The skin over the eyes wasn't even necessarily the wildest sight to be seen either. There was also a real-life shark on the freeway.
After a very long hiatus, 9-1-1 came back with an hour that was all about starting anew.
It was permeating throughout every emergency and every situation our main characters were battling.

The biggest case of the evening belonged to that of teenage Stevie.
His call to Maddie seemed like one from a child who was petrified of his father. And it was easy to feel like something sinister was happening in that home.
Maddie has a great knack for picking up on tone, and she also has great instincts.
Calling in a welfare check was the correct thing to do, and it allowed Athena a chance to follow her instincts and dig a little deeper into the Parnell family.

You could tell that there was something off with the father, Eric, but it was still a shocking discovery to find out that he was a kidnapper.
And serial kidnapper at that.
Things unfolded rather quickly, as things typically do on this show, but the entire story was played to perfection by all involved.
It's insane to think of a situation like this and imagine how a young boy would feel knowing that the man who raised him had actually stolen him from someone else.
There was something incredibly realistic about the scene when Stevie reunited with his birth parents.
To him, these people are strangers and it wouldn't have rung true to see him run and hug then and everyone trade pleasantries, because, for his part, he doesn't remember them enough to have missed them.
It's an incredibly sad moment, but also a hopeful one. Stevie's tender tug on his mother's curls is enough to bring tears to your eyes.
With time and patience, they will all be okay.
Outside of the rescues, a lot was going on in the lives of Bobby, Athena, Maddie, and Chimney.
For Bobby, it was time for him to meet the parents. And the meeting was awkward, humbling, and stressful.
Athena's mother is a proud, strong woman, who very much thinks she knows what's best for everyone.

There is no doubt she loves her daughter, but she's overbearing to the point that Athena has put up a bit of a wall between the two.
And this wall has kept Beatrice from getting to see who Athena really is.
All Beatrice can see are the mistakes she perceives Athena is making while struggling to understand the positives.
Her animosity towards Bobby is incredibly misguided and appears to stem from her overall displeasure with all aspects of her daughter's life.
It's not Bobby that she dislikes, as she doesn't even know him. She dislikes the idea of him, merely seeing him as another mistake waiting to happen.
Athena and Bobby have come a very long way from earlier this season, and it would be a shame if Athena allowed her mother's negativity to creep into her brain.
If she were to have doubts about Bobby on her own then so be it.
But her mother doesn't even fully understand what drives Athena to be the incredible person she is. Therefore, I hope Athena doesn't take her opinions as gospel.
The Maddie and Chimney saga finally culminated in a date, and we got about five minutes of happiness before our hopes and hearts got shattered.
It was surprising that Doug and Chimney were continuing the little friendship they had forged in 9-1-1 Season 2 Episode 10, but then again, Chimney is too sweet for his own good.
Now, of course, he has no idea the man he's drinking with and sharing with is Maddie's awful husband
But let this be a lesson to beware of random men who conveniently show up everywhere you are.
The closing moments were overwhelming, as you could feel that something terrible was going to happen. And poor, poor Chimney.
The man has already been through a lot, and now he's getting stabbed?
Both Chimney and Maddie better be okay, because they deserve their real shot a new beginning.
Loose Ends
- As Hen said, props to Bobby for stepping in and defending Athena from her mother's verbal attack. He has a deep respect for Athena, and it's beautiful to see.
- Buck and Ali are still a thing. Sort of. I hope we see more Ali moving forward!
- Was this the first episode without an Abby reference? We are making progress!
Alright, guys, there was a lot to unpack this week, and I want to hear all your thoughts about this thrilling installment.
What did you think about Athena's mother and her views?
Will Chimney and Maddie survive Doug's rampage?
What are you looking forward to seeing during the second half of the season?
