This episode featured a progressively modern take on an age-old legend, the perfect story fit for a series like Charmed.

Although less nuanced than its previous few installments, Charmed Season 1 Episode 15 continued to highlight what the series creators promised to deliver: unbridled and unapologetic feminism.

This time, it got showcased through the legend of Medusa. Reminding their demographic you can’t always believe what you hear in school, Charmed writers shined a light on the misogynistic roots of Medusa’s tale.

Was she a monster with snakes for hair who turned people into stone? Yes, she was. That's the "what" of the story. However, thanks to societies insatiable thirst for narratives revolving around dangerous female seduction, history tends to leave out the "why" of it all.

Medusa only turned into a monster after Greek God Poseidon repeatedly raped her. She was then essentially slut-shamed by Goddess Athena and punished by being transformed into a hideous monster.

Kind of important story points to leave out, don't you think?

Charmed thought so and wasted no time trying to bury their message in subtle complexities of meta filled angst. Macy’s dialogue was fierce, forward and unrelenting: Medusa was a victim.

Although heavy-handed at times, the use of Medusa showed viewers something which gets lost in many of today's discussions. Acts of rape and sexual assault are never your fault, but what becomes of you because of that assault, that's not your fault either.

Charmed delivers a lot of messages to women. But reminding them of the rumors which twist your reputation are not true representations of your character? Or that you are always worth being seen as more than a villain or a victim? Those are some of the most important yet.

Plenty of exciting arcs played out this episode, which once again left it feeling too jam-packed with content.

Jada and Mel’s storyline continued to feel rushed. It was satisfying to meet Fiona, and Leah Pipes is a powerhouse (and a perfect casting choice for Charity’s sister—they’re doppelgängers! Am I watching The Vampire Diaries again?). One can only hope she’ll be featured much more prominently in upcoming episodes.

However, it felt overly expositional listening to Jada rush through Fiona's backstory. Fiona has gotten a mention before, but not for quite some time, and the details were hazy. The connection between Fiona being both who the Sarcona was trying to save as well as Charity's sister was quite a big reveal.

A reveal that deserved a little bit more focus.

Fiona getting portrayed as such a broken individual played well. It allowed Maggie to see the reality of the Elders' actions. Still, a Charmed One meeting Fiona was a scene that should have gotten more levity. It was the moment where the Elders' true motives become clear.

That's a huge moment for Maggie and the show in general.

It's also quite the win for the Sarcona. So the question becomes: where are they?

Jada is turning out to be trustworthy, but for the Sarcona to be such a large part of Mel’s story, they should have a more substantial presence. It shouldn’t just be Jada and Mel. If we're supposed to be on Team Sarcona, more attention needs to be paid to them.

The Fiona story got even more muddled by the Freaky Friday plotline, which seemed unnecessary for the episode. It was still a ton of fun though. Diaz and Jeffrey did an exceptional job at portraying each other’s characters.

The Elders have officially gone dark which is a well-earned payoff considering they have been subtly shady from the pilot. It's empowering to see the sisters begin to pull rank against them.

The original Charmed was iconic in many ways, but the sisters' inability to stand against the Elders decisions -- no matter how toxic -- always felt uneven.

It is one of those cases where taking a new path is the right decision for a reboot. The fierceness Mel displays against Charity&Co is easy to root for, especially after "Switches and Stones" big twist ending.

I don’t often get completely sideswiped by a reveal, but Charity being Marisol’s murderer was not something I saw coming.

The Elders, in general, were devious enough to connect to her death, but Charity specifically was a full-blown surprise.

Because there are seven more episodes to the season (and a recent renewal), it feels as though Charity won’t be owning up to the truth quite yet. She will probably mind-wipe Macy into forgetting what she saw.

How long that wipe will last is another question. Chances are about five or six episodes, as we lead up to the finale. That's when Macy will use her “evil sight” to see into Charity’s motives.

How is that possible, you ask? If Charity honestly did kill Marisol, that would make her an evil being. If she’s evil, that means Macy will be able to channel her. That seems like a logical way for the truth to unveil itself, once and for all.

By next season, hopefully, all three sisters will be on board with the Sarcona, and the show will move away from the Elders completely. Maybe they'll even be Season 2's Big Bad.

Charmed's concept of playing with the shades of good vs. evil is a point of view the writers should take the opportunity to expand. They’ve already begun with Parker and Macy's demonic powers, so it could be a trope that threads itself throughout the series run.

Macy uses her demon side for good, Parker finds a way to do the same, and the sisters dedicate themselves to saving demons, not simply vanquishing them.

What about Galvin, though?

Didn’t he just go on some intensely dangerous mission to find a way to rid Macy of her demonic half? Isn’t he risking his life to save her as we speak? Shouldn’t she shoot him a text if that isn’t completely necessary anymore?

Poor Galvin.

Beyond Galvin, there’s so much that needs to get wrapped up before the end of the season. How the writers go about doing it will be interesting to witness. Macy's demon half, Niko, Allister, Charity, Parker, The Sarcona — that’s a lot of different strings to tie together before the season wraps.

Can Charmed do it? Signs point to yes.

If they can’t, well, at least they have a 22-episode second season to jump back into the frey.

Random Thoughts:

Parker being into roleplay with Maggie pretending to be Mel? Super creepy. I like Parker! But that was a hard no.

The Harry and Macy content has been thriving lately, and their chemistry is at its peak. Let's hope the writers hear our cry to build on that potential romance. After all, Charity is most likely evil, and Galvin will probably die in that crazy offscreen mission we know nothing about so, there's a chance!

The FX, although CGI, was fantastic this episode.

I wouldn't mind seeing Daphne again. I think that girl needs a friend.
