Legacies Season 1 Episode 13 Review: The Boy Who Still Has a Lot of Good to Do

at .

There's been a lot of debate of late about what supernatural abilities Landon Kirby could have, and Legacies Season 1 Episode 13 shed light on them.

I appreciate that Julie Plec and co. wanted us to believe Landon was legitimately dead, but for those of us who watched The Vampire Diaries and The Originals, we know dead does not mean dead in this universe.

That being said, the visuals of Landon combusting before rising from the ashes were well-executed.

I wondered what sort of being he was coming back as, but I'm unsure whether this is the first time this has happened to him.

The way he quizzed about what happened leads me to think he might not have a memory of when it originates, or he just mentally blocks it out.

Hey, it's not every day you rise from the dead like a phoenix.

Hope Pleads to Help

This presents us with a lot of possibilities as we head into the final episodes of Legacies Season 1.

We don't know whether Landon's abilities work with any type of death or even if there's a limitation to how many times they can be used.

It's possible that he's only safe against supernatural deaths in a similar vein to John Gilbert's ring that that did the rounds in the early years of The Vampire Diaries.

But this also makes me wonder who/what Landon's father is.

Surely we must be meeting the father in the coming weeks with Malvocalypse going into full swing.

The biggest surprise for me was that MG turned on Landon and pressed on with killing him.

Kaleb Quizzes Alaric - Legacies Season 1 Episode 13

That was a low blow. I'm not buying his reasons for lashing out at Landon. The latter wanted MG to confront his past in order to draw a line under it and move on with his life.

Landon grew up without his parents, so knowing that MG's were alive likely made him question what he would do if he was in that situation.

If you watch Legacies online, you know there have been hints peppered through recent episodes that MG is about to go off the rails.

It was really just a matter of time before he bit someone and went too far.

MG's mother was relentless.

She wanted her son back in the land of the living kept on the down low, and it seemed only to benefit her husband's political campaign.

There was raw emotion when MG reunited with his father, and it all went well ... until MG showed his true face.

Nothing good was going to come of that.

It surprised me that MG's dad was okay with his son being back, well, before he went full-blown vampire.

One person seeing MG in the flesh could have derailed his father's political campaign, and I dare say his mother was thinking that.

I was blindsided when the arrangement was to include MG's father thinking his son is really dead.

Alaric and Kaleb on a Mission - Legacies Season 1 Episode 13

That was cold, and not something I would have expected from good old Alaric.

Alaric is probably going to feel somewhat responsible because MG's actions manifest when he realized just how messed up his family is in his absence.

I particularly liked Kaleb's chat with MG even before they knew Landon was back from the dead.

Kaleb started off as one of the worst characters, but he's quickly becoming the voice of reason and one of the show's best characters.

Even Alaric is picking up on the growth from Kaleb.

They make a good team, and I think Alaric knows that what Kaleb is saying about the teens being able to defend themselves is right.

MG's Past - Legacies

Rafael breaking free from his chains to bite MG was predictable, but that the only issue I had with Landon.

Landon should have been more persistent about getting Rafael back to the school instead of helping MG. His heart was in the right place, but all of this could have been avoided.

Giving MG her blood after the vampire killed Hope's boyfriend proved that this young Mikaelson is not the same as her father.

We witnessed her rage on The Originals when Roman tricked her into having her mother killed.

I thought for sure that she was going to refuse to part with the cure for the werewolf bite, and it would have been warranted.

Hope is a multi-layered character, and I love that she has traits from both her father and her mother here.

Speaking of Rafael, it was heartbreaking to watch his struggle to remember the truth about what happened in the woods.

Emma and Hope had differing views over how to treat him, and while I don't agree with Emma being knocked out to sort things, it worked.

"The Boy Who Still Has a Lot of Good to Do" was another solid episode of this freshman drama series.

It's still proving the naysayers wrong and is different enough from the two shows that came before it to make it relevant.

What are your thoughts on the way Landon's power was revealed?

Should MG have died for his actions?

How happy are you that we still have some of the TVD left in this world?

Now it's your turn. Start talking!
