Roswell, New Mexico Season 1 Episode 7 Review: I Saw the Sign

at .

We wanted Maria DeLuca, and we got lots of her.

Roswell, New Mexico Season 1 Episode 7 shed light on Maria's fraught relationship with her mother, and it made for a solid hour of this CW drama.

Showrunner Carina Adly MacKenzie promised fans on social media that an upcoming episode would provide a lot of information about the character, so we knew it was coming.

If you watch Roswell, New Mexico online, you know that Maria has mostly been used as a plot device whenever Liz needed someone to take on the friend character.

Protecting Herself - Roswell, New Mexico

It was about time we got some insight into her.

Having Sheri Saum playing Maria's mother was the perfect casting choice.

While the narrative Mimi was spouting seemed like something out of Independence Day, there were some moments in which she seemed like she was talking sense.

Name dropping the likes of Jim Valenti, and even Rosa, there was more to her than meets the eye.

I appreciate that Maria decided to put her into assisted living because she's tried as much as she possibly could to keep her mother safe.

Sherri Saum as Mimi - Roswell, New Mexico Season 1 Episode 7

Running the bar and living her own life, Maria was always on edge just waiting for the worst to happen.

Putting her mother somewhere safe means she'll be able to sleep a little easier at night.

However, I'm starting to get the feeling there are more aliens in town, and they're compelling the citizens of Roswell, New Mexico.

Wyatt drawing the symbol without even knowing it was a dead giveaway.

He was busy chatting with Cameron while doing it.

That's not right and proves there's more going on in this sleepy little town than we're being led to believe.

Reunion - Roswell, New Mexico Season 1 Episode 7

I enjoyed Mimi getting Liz confused with Rosa because it opened up a lot of potential directions for the storyline to take.

There's a resemblance between the siblings. There's no getting away from that.

Max is starting to become the weak link in all of this, and that's concerning.

His love for Liz is all-consuming, but he needs to think about the bigger picture.

He stands to lose his job for what happened with Wyatt.

I get that he took Wyatt writing the tattoo as a way of messing with him, but the fundamental issue with Max comes back to his blind loyalty to Liz.

He needs to grow a backbone and understand that his actions have consequences.

Caught - Roswell, New Mexico Season 1 Episode 3

If Isobel really killed those girls, then that's the issue that needs addressing.

Liz has been grating on my nerves for weeks now, but she spoke a lot of sense during "I Saw the Sign."

There was no point in her going public with Isobel being the murderer because it would come back to bite her by having her father deported.

It's a sucky situation, but I was entirely on board with her finding a weapon against the aliens.

It's obvious Michael, Max, and Isobel will survive the season, so I don't think the serum will ever get used on any of them.

Liz being given the green light from Max to continue working on it makes me think there are others out there, and the serum will help save the town.

The flashback to 1947 must have meant something. We're starting to find out that the mystery wasn't just about those three girls who were killed by an alien.

Isabelle Wants Answers - Roswell, New Mexico Season 1 Episode 1

Isobel wants to take accountability for her actions, and I dare say if she were a human, she would have handed herself in by now.

She's struggling to come to terms with everything, and she knows there's a darkness inside her.

Putting her under lock and key in a facility is for the best. If the blackouts are starting up again, there's no telling what she could do.

I loved her reference to Dark Willow from Buffy the Vampire Slayer

That came out of nowhere, and it made me laugh out loud.

Cameron working with Manes was predictable, but she's trying to push Max away so that she doesn't feel terrible when it all comes out.

Alex's Past - Roswell, New Mexico Season 1 Episode 5

In a sense, she's curious about him, but she's also driven by her mission to save her sister's life.

The wonderful directing from The Vampire Diaries' Paul Wesley as she looked at the half tattoo before making her decision was perfect.

Now that Manes is looking into Max, he's going to turn to both Alex and Kyle for assistance.

They went to school with him, so he'll think they'll be able to assist.

Given that Alex found the supernatural stuff in the cabin, he's also going to be curious, but I don't think he's going to want to know the answers.

I

f he gets roped into answering some questions, he's likely going to figure out that Michael is an alien based on the tattoo alone.

"I Saw the Sign" was an episode filled with thrilling moments and solid acting.

I can't wait to see where we go from here.
