If you say you weren't bawling like a baby on Shadowhunters Season 3 Episode 16 you're lying.

There was enough angst in one hour to fill the entire series, and right now, it feels impossible to fully recover.

Mother and "Son" - Shadowhunters Season 3 Episode 16

Alec has always been one to keep his emotions locked up tight.

Magnus was the first person to really break down his walls, and because of it, the audience has been able to experience a different, more vulnerable side to him.

When faced with the possibility of losing Magnus, instead of closing himself off, Alec opens himself up even more.

It's a real atonement to how much Alec has developed as a character, and how much of an impact Magnus has had on his life.

Never in a million years did we think we would see Alec Lightwood beg for anything, but if there was any doubt, Shadowhunters Season 3 Episode 16 proves that there's nothing Alec wouldn't do for his boyfriend.

Matthew Daddario's acting was incredible, and it was impossible not to feel every single emotion alongside Alec. His desperation to save Magnus mixed with his unconditional love for him was like a giant knife to the heart.

It hurt, but it somehow hurt so good?

He is my world. And if he dies...

Alec

Magnus' insistence that he is nothing without his magic was heartbreaking.

After centuries of people using him for his powers, it's not surprising that Magnus would feel useless without them.

Anytime a character needs out of a bad situation, they immediately come knocking on Magnus' door. And Magnus, being the kind-hearted and selfless warlock he is, never turns them down.

Desperation - Shadowhunters Season 3 Episode 16

Although magic helps Magnus feel connected to the world around him, it's undoubtfully the ability to help people that Magnus values the most.

Alec's speech to him was so genuine and heartfelt, that it was obvious he wasn't just trying to make Magnus feel better. Alec truly thinks the world of him, with or without his magic.

Your powers were incredible, but that's not why I fell in love with you. I fell in love with you because you're wise, and you're generous, and you're brave! You're incredible! I just...when you walk into a room there's a spark in you, magic or not, that lights up everything and everyone around you. I won't lose you. I can't.

Alec

Thankfully, the final scene with Alec and Maryse confirmed all of our wildest hopes and dreams. If there was any doubt, it looks like we know who's getting married this season.

Magnus is more than likely going to be in a slump for a while without his magic, but we have faith that with Alec by his side he can get through anything.

And if we're lucky, it appears as if Alec is going to be by his side for the rest of their lives.

Clary lashing out at Simon was painful to watch. Clary's a kind person in general, but she has always been especially warm and light-hearted when it comes to her best friend.

The hurt and shock on Simon's face was clear as day, and it was in that moment that everyone realized something had to be done.

However, Clary's plan to summon Lilith and make her remove the rune sounded too good to be true.

Clary: Maybe we go straight to the source.
Jace: Are you talking about Lilith?

There was no way Lilith would ever do anything to help Clary, and when you're summoning the mother of all demons something is bound to go wrong.

The plan seemed like a bad idea from the start, but Clary really didn't have any other options. The Silent Brothers' inability to help made us wonder if there's really anything that can be done at all.

Something Needs to Be Done - Shadowhunters Season 3 Episode 16

Simon and Isabelle are, of course, willing to help in whatever way they can, and it was nice to have them team up again. In fact, it's been weeks since the two have shared a scene together.

Although a sneak peek of Simon and Isabelle's time in the tunnels was released prior to Shadowhunters Season 3 Episode 16, the actual scene was even cuter when watched in full.

Let's make a pact. Single for life.

Simon

From the moment Isabelle grabbed Simon's pinky and shook it in an attempt to make her first pinky swear, it became clear that their "sacred vow" would soon be broken.

The soft way Simon looks at Izzy as he corrects her and interlocks their fingers, appeared as if was a moment of realization.

In fact, the two just stand them for a moment gazing at each other and have to snap themselves out of it to return to the mission at hand.

They better watch out. The consequences of a broken pinky swear can be dire.

Crisis - Shadowhunters Season 3 Episode 16

The fight scene towards the end of Shadowhunters Season 3 Episode 16 was epic in every possible way.

Jace and Isabelle are one of the most lethal duos on the series, and their faceoff with Jonathan was badass.

Unfortunately, it didn't end well, but we can't say we're surprised.

The audience doesn't know Cain well enough to trust him, so it's not shocking that he betrayed them as soon as Lilith offered him a better deal.

Look Who's Back - Shadowhunters Season 3 Episode 16

But does this mean the rune is stuck on Clary for good?

It's incredibly sweet that Jace was able to pull her back from the edge, but Jace can't always be there and they have to be realistic.

As long as Clary has that rune, she'll always feel a connection to Jonathan.

Keeping Jonathan imprisoned seems like the best bet for now, but how long is the Clave going to stand for that?

There's nothing they want more than Jonathan Morgenstern dead, and as they've exemplified in the past, Clary's life is expendable.
