When Calls the Heart Season 6 Episode 7 Review: Hope Is With the Heart

at .

It will be a blessing when When Calls the Heart Season 6 comes to an end.

After When Calls the Heart Season 6 Episode 7, it's obvious there was so much retooling done after Lori Loughlin's departure that the story suffers as a result.

When a star as big as Bruce Boxleitner drops into town and his appearance gets cut to about five minutes of airtime, you know something doesn't smell right (to use Bill's words).

Happy to See Rosemary - When Calls the Heart Season 6 Episode 7

That's not to say the show isn't worth watching, but the spark was snuffed when Loughlin's Abigail left town.

You can feel the stories were originally built with more in mind, but under the circumstances, well, what can you do?

Key to a New Future - When Calls the Heart Season 6 Episode 7

For the last several episodes, there hasn't been enough substance to carry the show forward.

The Hallmark Channel always programs shows with a sweet and kind bent to them, but there is usually a bit more bite.

When Calls the Heart Review: Disputing Hearts

Bill left holding the entire bag for the more sharper side of things, and it doesn't seem like enough was on the table before Abigail left town for him to do that successfully.

Even his first day in court dragged a little bit as Jesse tried to get what he thought he deserved in conjunction with the sale of his land to Henry.

Henry on the Hook - When Calls the Heart Season 6 Episode 7

Now Henry has made some pretty bad decisions in the past, but gobbling up land at the prospect of oil isn't one of them.

Jesse didn't have a case. But the case did uncover that Bouchard was involved with a shady man, and that tarnishes the already dull image the man has in town.

The fact is I don't know who or what you are, but your partner is a convicted criminal, and it doesn't smell right from here.

Bill

That line of questioning (or a bold statement on the part of Judge Bill) was way out of line. It's not up to a judge to demand questions about someone's personal life nor their business dealings just because a case came around.

Jack himself has done a lot with Henry over the years, and his former partner and mayor Abigail gave the businessman a lot of credit.

Henry Looking Shady - When Calls the Heart Season 6 Episode 7

Now the cat is out of the bag that not only is Bouchard a gambler, but he's willing to trust someone like Henry to make him money.

Bill: Henry, I want you to answer me a question. If the geologist said you had a 40% chance of finding oil on Jesse's property, why would you buy options all around it?
Henry: Well, it only stands to reason that the more property under my control, the better chance I'd have of striking oil. I'm not going to apologize for taking a huge risk and having it pay off.

People take chances on projects with odds that are a lot lower. If someone told me I had a 40% chance of finding oil on my land, I might be out there scouting for investors, too.

A Discovery of Witches Review: Madison

It also makes perfect sense to me why Bouchard would want to fund the town library. If he feels in the least bit dirty in his dealings Henry or anyone else, then doing something noble for the community would go a long way to assuage his guilt.

Speechless - When Calls the Heart Season 6 Episode 7

Elizabeth got very flustered while speaking with Bouchard. Did anyone else notice that?

Elizabeth is in an exciting spot with what appears to be two suitors. Considering there are a lot of eligible women in town, she should be very flattered.

She should be flattered even if it sometimes seems like she's caught in the middle of two boys trying to win her affections.

Elizabeth: You can't blame the library or Lucas for what happened. There's nothing wrong with being a book lover.
Nathan: Yeah, he's a lover alright. I'm just not sure about the book part.

Mountie on the Phone - When Calls the Heart Season 6 Episode 7

I'm not on board with Mountie Nathan yet, and that might be coloring my view of everything regarding Elizabeth's potential love life.

He seems like a great uncle and father figure to Allie, and we learned he has a checkered past through no fault of his own that might affect the way he sees things both in his job and when it comes to a man like Bouchard.

I have to wonder if the reason his father is in prison is for something related to gambling.

He mentioned to Allie that his father didn't think he could provide for the family without doing something illegal. Of course, he also reminded his wayward niece that stealing hurts people, so there are multiple possibilities afoot.

Visiting Bouchard - When Calls the Heart Season 6 Episode 7

Elizabeth didn't take any time trying to squash any interest Bouchard might have in her, but his reaction almost seemed to counter her desire to do so.

Elizabeth: Why are you so interested in setting up the library?
Lucas: Hope Valley needs one.
Elizabeth: Is that the only reason? Because if I have in any way led you to believe... Never mind.
Lucas: Now I'm not going to deny that I was aware of your beauty, but as I got to know you, I became fascinated by your goodness. [picks up a book] Dangerous Liaisons. One of my favorites. I wanted a library because it seemed like a good thing. No disrespect.

I'd like to think that Bouchard is getting set up to be something he is not much in the same way Rosemary (and Faith) both first arrived in town with thoughts of Jack on their mind.

Initially, they were at odds with Elizabeth, but over time things changed dramatically.

Nothing shows that more than the way Elizabeth and Rosemary have become best friends.

We finally got our scene with Rosemary and Leland about what's been on her mind, and I'm relieved it's only (which is not said lightly) about her thinking she can't have children.

Leland is Ready to Talk - When Calls the Heart Season 6 Episode 7

I would hate to think that there was the possibility of the two of them splitting for any logical reason, and never would it make sense for them to split over adversity that could be attributed to either of them.

Supergirl Review: The Quest for Peace

Leland isn't an old fashioned man, and he's willing to take responsibility for the fact they're not having children. It was long before fertility treatments, so nobody knows for sure why they aren't conceiving.

Rosemary: I see you with little Jack, and you would make a wonderful father. And I know that's what you want.
Leland: Mmm hmm.
Rosemary: Uh, I don't think I can give you a child. You deserve to be a father. You do, and I know, I know it's my fault.
Leland: You don't know that. You don't know that at all. It could just as easily be me. The truth is it doesn't matter because no matter how much I might want a child, the only thing in the whole world I really need is you. Every day with you is like a gift. I am the luckiest man in the whole world because your face is first thing I get to see every morning when I wake up. I love you, and I see you with baby Jack and I know how much you want a child of your own.
Rosemary: What if it doesn't happen for us?
Leland: We face it together, just like we always do. You and me.

Hopefully, once she stops worrying about it, something will come whether by way of a natural pregnancy or adoption.

In the meantime, Elizabeth proved her belief in Rosemary as a mother by asking them to be guardians to little Jack. I assume that's the same thing in Canada that we have in the US -- godparents.

Happy to See Rosemary - When Calls the Heart Season 6 Episode 7

It was a beautiful gesture and one that ties them together as a family forever.

Everything Rosemary is coming up roses now, as she can be a maternal figure to Jack and a thriving business success, the latter thanks to Fiona.

The Fiona line got all the ladies in town very excited about fashion, and the shop is sure to be busy for some time to come.

And oh my gosh, I know Andrea Brooks is very busy (she has also been featured on Supergirl Season 4), but please tell me we haven't gone through the sometimes torturous suffering of Faith and Carson as a couple only to have her leave town!

Rosemary at Rest - When Calls the Heart Season 6 Episode 7

Given her schedule, though, and the previously mentioned available women in town, maybe Carson needs to be the eligible bachelor again.

If her father needs someone to care for him after falling ill, who better than his daughter, the nurse? It wouldn't make sense in light of the story for her to return quickly (if at all).

When Calls the Heart Review: Surprise

There hasn't been any news that other characters are leaving the canvas, but a lot have come and gone over the tenure of When Calls the Heart, so losing Faith or even her and Carson wouldn't be unheard of.

Paul Greene is a whirlwind in life, and he could have his sights set on any number of projects. Are you worried?

And all of what I've discussed so far is sweet and light. But it's not fascinating like Abigail's stories used to be, nor does it tie into a big name guest star like Boxleitner.

If you read the episode descriptions online, the one for "Hope Is With the Heart" noted that someone from Abigail's past comes to town. That had to be Johnny Boon, right?

The connection with Bill was cute, but not enough to bring him to town only to have him sent away again. It would be a real shame if we were going to get treated to Johnny only to lose him due to "circumstances."

Boxleitner is always fun to watch, and he was a hoot in just the few scenes he got, so imagine if he could have interacted with more of the cast.

When Calls the Heart Season 6 Episode 8 seems like it will be a bit more interesting, if not to my liking.

It's time to uncover Bouchard's secrets and see if he's really earned his spot in the credits or if he's going to disappear when his past catches up with him.

With only two episodes left to the season, there are a lot of cards getting tossed into the air.

Knowing there was huge behind the scenes upheaval only makes the future that much more delicate.

What are your thoughts on everything? What do you think is coming with Bouchard? Are you on board with Mountie Nathan?

When Calls the Heart Season 6 Episode 7 Quotes

Lucas: I think we made quite a bit of progress.
Elizabeth: I'm so impressed by how well the children did.
Lucas: Yeah.
Elizabeth: How's your thumb?

Allie: I hope you used dowels.
Lucas: Excuse me?
Allie: Dowels. Little wood things?
Lucas: I know what dowels are.
Allie: Books are heavy. These nails will just bend.
Lucas: I think these nails will be just fine.
Allie: Suit yourself.
Lucas: But just out of curiosity, if one were interested in using dowels, how would he go about doing that?
