When Calls the Heart Season 6 Episode 8 Review: A Call From the Past

at .

Let's just call that fiasco a stumbling block for Boucard to win Elizabeth's affections.

When Calls the Heart Season 6 Episode 8 went full force with the two eligible bachelors in town making impressions on the eligible widow, and it doesn't seem like it's going to be an easy decision for Elizabeth even with all of the obvious evidence.

"A Call From the Past" was also an open door to the upcoming summer web series, When Hope Calls, officially a spinoff of When Calls the Heart.

Smiling Couple - Tall - When Calls the Heart Season 6 Episode 8

When Hope Calls will feature Grace and her friend, Lillian, as they start they open their own orphanage.

I wish I could say that Grace made an impression during the Christmas movie, but I don't recall much. Of course, I didn't know I needed to keep track for an upcoming series, either.

A Young Woman Smiles - When Calls the Heart Season 6 Episode 8

Grace is affable and kind, and she brings to town with her a newly orphaned little boy named Spencer.

As Grace got raised in an orphanage, it seems likely that having children reside there indefinitely will be part of the formula of the upcoming series.

Still, it was hard not to imagine that with Rosemary's recent concern about being unable to have children the story might roll around to something a big different.

It will be interesting to find out in what direction the new series is going to go, but I hope the orphanage does good business in placing children as well as giving them a hopeful place to live until they are adopted.

Boy Playing Jacks - When Calls the Heart Season 6 Episode 8

Grace is very good with the boy, and even finds a way for the grieving child to begin eating by suggesting they have flapjacks for dinner.

Leland and Rosemary loved the idea and helping Spencer get back on track so that's another reason I thought there would be more to Spencer's story than a life in the orphanage.

Spencer may not know it, but one day he's going to be grateful he ended up with Grace and Lillian.

Rosemary

Maybe that's coming on the When Calls the Heart Season 6 finale.

After all, Grace is sticking around to get Spencer iron pills, and they're going to enjoy the Founders Day Celebration.

Rosemary's words were laden with a deeper meaning than Spencer is going to enjoy living at the orphanage.

There are also big plans ahead for the mill, and just in time, too.

When Calls the Heart Review: Disputing Hearts

Henry is luring away almost all of Lee's employees. To show how easily people will abandon their work at the call of a sounder financial future, Jesse grappled with the idea, as well.

Loyalty means something. You've been loyal to me, now it's my turn.

Jesse

Thankfully, Clara reminded him that happiness doesn't come as a result of money but because you love the work you do and the people with whom you work.

Henry with His Car - When Calls the Heart Season 6 Episode 8

I was a little disappointed that Fiona not only listened to Bouchard's incoming phone call but that she shared what she heard with Elizabeth.

Elizabeth didn't waste any time, going right to the source to find out why he might be having troubles.

Fiona ultimately put Elizabeth's life in jeopardy but also ensured that Elizabeth caught a whiff of danger floating around Bouchard when he was getting ready to exit Hope Valley.

By sharing what she knew with Nathan and Bill, they managed to keep events from escalating too far out of control.

Lucas Has a Problem - When Calls the Heart Season 6 Episode 8

But again, Abigail was missed as she was always the person most likely to give others the benefit of the doubt.

I knew Bouchard was trouble the moment I laid eyes on him.

Bill

Bill taking the attitude that Bouchard was trouble from the moment he got to town wasn't appreciated.

When Calls the Heart Review: Surprise

As we learned in the wake of the incident, bad guy Amos had not only deep pockets but deep connections. With his far reach, Lucas didn't know if any of the new people he was meeting were in cahoots with Amos or not.

And frankly, the way Bill treats people, who could blame Lucas from thinking the worse about his new acquaintances?

Judge with a Gun - When Calls the Heart Season 6 Episode 8

But Bouchard isn't a bad guy.

He's a guy who helps a woman when she's in need. He shares that quality with Elizabeth's late husband, Jack. Isn't that how he met and became friends with Faith?

Protecting a friend is a noble endeavor.

What isn't noble, though, is hoarding the money the loan shark was owed instead of just paying him to get him out of their lives.

We've always known that Bouchard had a lot of money in his safe, so it was disheartening that he tried to shirk paying the criminal even when Elizabeth's life was in danger.

Finding Elizabeth - When Calls the Heart Season 6 Episode 8

Sure, he was getting cleaned out, but pulling the gun out of the safe was just a silly attempt on his part.

It could have backfired and gotten him and Elizabeth both killed.

When Calls the Heart Review: Heart of a Mountie

The whole incident seemed to take quite some time to roll out because Lee even got involved when he discovered Elizabeth had never made it home.

It's nice to have friends like them to raise the alarm.

Leland's Pride and Joy - When Calls the Heart Season 6 Episode 8

But now we have the fly in the ointment that is Bouchard's obvious attraction to Elizabeth.

While it would make the most sense for Elizabeth to slip gently into the arms of another Mountie, the lives of both men carry risk, and that's something Elizabeth struggled with when it came to Jack.

Bouchard is a gambler, yes, but he's also a lover of the arts and a philanthropist.

Nathan saves lives for a living and could get called into a perilous situation at any moment. The same doesn't go for Bouchard.

Elizabeth comes alive when she's around Bouchard even when she's rebuffing his offer of a coat after a harrowing night.

She hasn't shown that same kind of intensity with Nathan.

Fiona with Rosemary and the Baby - When Calls the Heart Season 6 Episode 8

But either way, surely one or the other who doesn't win Elizabeth's heart will realize there are more fish in the sea.

Fiona deserves a man in her life, too.

Kayla Wallace is such a talented actress, and she deserves a more exciting storyline than she's gotten since her arrival.

A Discovery of Witches Finale Review: Out of Time

She can't always get relegated to lending a helping hand or scurrying after townsfolk to get them to the telephone.

Who knows. Maybe When Calls the Heart Season 6 Episode 9 will find her asking someone to dance at the Founders Day Celebration before Elizabeth even gets an opportunity.

A Sequence of Events - When Calls the Heart Season 6 Episode 8

It sure looks like there will be a lot coming on the finale.

Jack is getting baptized, a revelation that shocked me since I thought Rosemary and Lee, as guardians, were the de facto godparents. Nope!

Julie will be baby Jack's godmother and Bill his godfather.

Jack really looked up to you, and one day, Little Jack will, too.

Elizabeth

While that's sweet, it would have been a good time to revisit Jack's relationship with his family, too.

Tom might have wanted to be a part of baby Jack's life. Did you notice that when Jack died, his family seemed to drop off the face of the earth? Wouldn't Tom or even Charlotte want to be a part of baby Jack's life?

Characters are often dropped inconveniently on When Calls the Heart, and if anything, it's the biggest problem I have with the show.

Characters come, we get to know them, and often they disappear without getting a full understanding of what's happened to them.

What  do you hope to see on the finale?

Will there be a storming of the library with the excitement of reading a good book?

Will Elizabeth lock eyes with Nathan during the ribbon cutting ceremony or will she ask Lucas to dance surprising everyone?

If you're dropping by, please say hello!
