Whiskey Cavalier Season 1 Episode 13 Review: Czech Mate

at .

Don't you hate it when a season finale turns into a series finale?

The fight to save Whiskey Cavalier continues, and whether or not it will be fruitful has yet to be determined. In the meantime, if Whiskey Cavalier Season 1 Episode 13 served as the season finale, then it came full-circle in many ways.

Will and Ray are back to being friends, and Will and Frankie's next mission will be to retrieve Standish.

Hacker Extraordinaire - Whiskey Cavalier Season 1 Episode 13

Found family tropes are the best, and nothing goes hand in hand with a merry band of misfits who form an unorthodox family losing the baby or the lovable puppy of their squad.

Standish is the lovable puppy of the bunch. He's the annoying kid brother who everyone can't help but love, so he was the perfect choice to find himself in Ollerman's clutches by the end of the hour.

It's a shame we won't be able to see the team jump into action to find him; they would be motivated to do so in a different way than if it were any other member of the team.

Tina the Traitor - Whiskey Cavalier Season 1 Episode 13

Ollerman and Standish had some history anyway, but Ollerman wanted Standish to exact some form of revenge on him after what happened to Tina.

Marika is so good at playing bad that I enjoyed every second of Tina up until Standish of all people killed her. She was cold-hearted to our boy when she showed who she was and knocked him out.

However, Tina revealing to Standish that she killed Emma was as cold as it gets. She promised to kill him next if she felt so inclined.

Frankie: Standish your girlfriend sucks.
Standish: Yeah, I know.

Frankie and Will were close to catching Ollerman once and for all in Austria, but it was Tina who tipped him off and screwed up their plans.

It's unfortunate they didn't catch him then; they would've avoided so much heartache and drama. Ollerman enlisting the team to work with him by threatening the life of their own was a fascinating final mission.

He used poor Paul to get his message across by triggering whatever it was he injected in the guy during his last dentist appointment and causing Paul to bleed out through every orifice.

Casualty - Tall - Whiskey Cavalier Season 1 Episode 13

It was gross, brutal, and it served its purpose. The team's hands were tied when Ollerman injected Ray with something as well, which could cost him his life.

Ray was a smart choice as the victim because of his rocky road toward being accepted by the team and forgiven by Will. It put them in a position where they had to fight on behalf of the guy who was often an outcast.

It also was used to remind fans of the relationship between Susan and Ray. It's the one love story that ended on the best possible note. Susan spent a lot of time convincing herself she didn't have real feelings for Ray, but most of the others knew the truth.

Real Love - Tall - Whiskey Cavalier Season 1 Episode 13

It sucks how the shortened season and switched up episodes threw some of the development off. It would have been nice if we saw their relationship play out a bit more.

Finally, Susan told Will about the secret relationship she had with Ray, but of course, Will knew about it already. He's a spy after all.

In the end, Susan had to know that Will is her best friend, and he would want her to be happy. It was evident based on how worked up she was during their mission how much she cared about Ray.

Ray, I really like you, and I would be very upset if you died.

Susan

The mission was amusing. Lauren Cohan was able to utilize her actual accent again, and Frankie and Susan got to have a pretend catfight. It was entertaining, and I do wonder how close the fight would be if it were real. Both women are skilled; it could be a close one.

The friendship between Jai and Susan was on full display too. Jai has probably grown the most throughout the season. He's not only open about his feelings, but he gives great advice and has become an excellent friend.

A Wise Man - Whiskey Cavalier Season 1 Episode 13

He knew the extent of Susan's feelings for Ray before she was willing to admit them herself. I loved how he got to step in the role usually reserved for her as the shrink.

He wanted her to tell Ray how he felt in case Ollerman triggered the button and killed Ray anyway. Susan's moment with Ray was harrowing when it seemed as though he would die.

Fortunately, it wasn't in the cards for him yet, and it was something the two of them could enjoy later on after he woke up at the hospital. Did you love the Susan and Ray 'ship? Are they headed into a serious relationship?

Finally Forgiven - Tall - Whiskey Cavalier Season 1 Episode 13

Standish taking out Tina was what he prepared for all season. Tina may have doubted his abilities as a spy, but he had the last word when he shot her while wearing was that a smoking jacket? I love Standish!

It left Will and Frankie to deal with Ollerman once and for all.

The red lighting and overall setup of Ollerman's scene before he jumped out of the window was perfect. It set the mood and highlighted his villainy.

Old Nemesis - Whiskey Cavalier Season 1 Episode 8

His little monologue was perfect too. They should've known he had a backup plan of some kind though. He jumped out the window, but they didn't see the body. You always look for the body!

No way would it have been that easy to get rid of Ollerman. Frankie and Will should've known better.

Little piece of advice from your old friend, if somebody tries to write your story for you, don't let them. End in on your own terms.

Ollerman

In their defense, they were adorable making googly eyes at each other and sharing Will's pastry. They have come a long way too from hating one another to becoming friends and something more.

Emma was but a distant memory, and it seemed as though Will was back into showing interest in Frankie. They were about to kiss one another on the balcony. It's hard to say how Will would have responded upon hearing Standish's message about Tina killing Emma.

The Best Partners - Whiskey Cavalier Season 1 Episode 13

I know it's part of the spy life, but he moved on quick. However, new information may have changed matters. It's possible we'll never know.
