Swamp Thing Season 1 Episode 2 Review: Worlds Apart

at .

More information about Abby's past came to light on Swamp Thing Season 1 Episode 2, and it made for another riveting installment of this DC Universe drama series.

Say what you will about the streamer, but Swamp Thing is a show unlike any other on the small screen.

Swamp Monster - Tall - Swamp Thing Season 1 Episode 2

There were several moments I almost shut the screener of "Worlds Apart" off because the sheer amount of jump scares. It's difficult to take notes when you're being scared shitless. Sheesh!

The horror catches you by surprise on Swamp Things. It comes out of nowhere, and a show that can surprise the audience on an episodic basis is the sign of a show that's worth keeping around.

Because of that, this is a difficult review to write because, well, the series is canceled. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the dumb decision to ax a series after only one airing and critical acclaim, but there's a lot we don't know about what went into the decision.

All we can do is enjoy the rest of Swamp Thing Season 1 and marvel at the stunning cinematography.

Searching for Alec - Swamp Thing Season 1 Episode 2

The way the scenes come together is something you would expect from a big budget movie, but that's likely why the show has been canceled.

No expense was spared in the production of Swamp Things.

That much is evident. It was a big swing, and I hope we get a conclusive ending to the show's plots because it would suck to invest all this time to be left out in the cold.

Abby's determination to find answers was the highlight of the episode. It was obvious she was going to be ridiculed about what she was saying about the monster she laid eyes on, but it further fueled her drive to find out more.

The very thought of Suzie being missing was enough to send her well and truly over the edge. Suzie was in quarantine for a reason: The CDC has no clue what the virus is, and it could be passed from human-to-human.

Ian Ziering and Crystal Reed on Swamp Thing

A part of Abby knew there was still a part of Alec lingering out there, and it's going to be intriguing to witness how she manages to get acclimated with the fact that he's now a monster.

He's fighting on the side of good, and Abby will surely learn that once she realizes he helped save Suzie's life from the psycho who was trying to off her so that nobody knew he just killed the cop.

Those scenes were genuinely terrifying, you guys!

There are a lot more layers to Alec than Abby first realized, and his vlogs helped her realize that. There was genuine pain behind her eyes as she watched those videos on Danny's computer.

On a side note, Danny has got to be hiding something, right? Ian Ziering oozed charisma during his debut scenes, but I can't shake the feeling he's going to be part of this whole thing.

Jason is a Mad Scientist - Swamp Thing Season 1 Episode 2

One person who definitely is part of it is Avery Sunderland. In Marais, money gives you influence, and Avery is doing his best to make sure he can use that influence to add some zeros to his bank account.

It's hard to imagine what the eff is going into Jason's accelerant, but it's manifesting into something that's getting stronger by the episode.

Jason is like the mad scientist in this scenario, and he's going to prove instrumental as Swamp Thing Season 1 progresses.

He's so adamant that he is not to blame for any of this, but there's probably going to come a time in which Avery turns the tables to avoid a P.R. disaster. He's going to make someone else take the fall.

Beware the Swamp

There's more to the swamp than we are being led to believe. We're so early into the series that the dynamics are going to change vastly by the conclusion.

The insight into Abby's past was needed.  Avery wanted her under his thumb so that he could avoid his role being found out. He used the past as his ammunition, and it showed that he has no qualms with manipulating people ... even those he raised.

Through two episodes, it's clear that Abby does not mince her words, and that's why it was so satisfying when she called him out for trying to make her think he was doing her a favor.

What we do know is that Avery was not really around when Shauna died. There's a disconnect between him and his wife, Maria, and it's doubtful that they're going to find their way back together.

Abby Arkane Faces the Swamp

The love appears to be gone, and that's probably as a result of their differing ways of grieving.

Maria's brush with death is only going to make her more intrigued to find out the mystical properties of the swamp. She's desperately holding on to the notion that she will one day be reunited with her daughter.

That's all I got, Swamp Thing Fanatics!
