19 Things We Want to See on Superstore Season 5

Superstore is undoubtfully one of the most underrated shows on television.

The sitcom manages to respectfully address serious topics while still keeping comedy front and center. It's a hard line to toe, but Superstore manages to do it perfectly.

In an extremely emotional scene, Superstore Season 4 left off with Mateo being driven away by ICE, while his co-workers pondered what to do next.

With the fifth season premiering in the fall, we created a slideshow below of 19 things we want to see when Superstore makes its return!

And make sure to check back at TV Fanatic for weekly reviews of Superstore Season 5!

1. Mateo to Return Safely to Cloud 9

We know Mateo hasn't been written off the series, so we're interested to see how the sitcom will handle his storyline. It's both incredible and heartbreaking that the show went there, and we're anxious to see how it all plays out.

2. Sandra and Jerry's Wedding

Sandra and Jerry are one of the purest couples in history and deserve nothing but happiness. Now that they're engaged, we've got our fingers crossed that we'll get to see the employees of Cloud 9 attend another wedding.

3. A Simmosa Proposal

Jonah and Amy still need to discuss the baby dilemma, but hopefully, they'll get things figured out soon. We love the slow burn and we don't want to rush their relationship, so how about a proposal at the end of Season 5 and a wedding on Season 6? We'll need the full hiatus to recover if Jonah (or Amy) gets down on one knee.

4. The Return of Dina's Birds

The loss of Dina's birds is something we'll never get over. They were a huge part of her character and there were very few things she cared about more than them. The despair on Dina's face when they flew away still hurts our hearts to this day.

5. Amy's Missing Son

Superstore fans can collectively agree that the real mystery of Season 4 is, "what happened to Parker?" There may not be much of a place for him while Amy is at work, but does he still exist? Or is he just a figment of our imagination like the puppy Glenn gave Amy?

6. More Jonah and Emma Scenes

Although we don't see it much, the dynamic between Jonah and Amy's daughter has always been hilarious. If the QuinceaƱera episode proved anything, it's that the show could benefit from more scenes between the two. How could you not love this future stepdad and stepdaughter relationship?

7. Dina's Backstory

There are so many things about Dina that we are still dying to know. What's the truth about her and her family? Didn't Dina's dad just leave her at a gas station one day? Can we get some more clarification on that, please?

8. Jonah and Amy Having Fun Together

Jonah and Amy have always had a fun dynamic. But now that they're in a committed relationship we want to see how much they love each other, and not just how much they hate each other. It's impossible not to enjoy their banter, but we also want some moments of them having fun and just enjoying each other's company. Who do we need to petition for a "Video Game Release" 2.0?

9. More Sandra Screentime

Sandra has finally been promoted to a series regular and we are here for it. Hopefully, she'll get even more screentime this season, as her character is a unique addition to the already diverse cast.

10. The Employees Form a Union

The employees of Cloud 9 unionizing has been years in the making. Jonah and Amy may have raised their white flags at the beginning of Season 2, but they made a promise to continue the fight another day. With Mateo being detained, another day is here and now and we can't wait to see what they choose to do next.

11. Jonah Bringing "Sexy" Back

As we all know, Jonah is the only person who can pull off the word "sexy." Maybe he'll finally be able to bring it back to our everyday language on Superstore Season 5. If anyone can do it, Jonah can.

12. A Field Trip Away From the Store

We know that Superstore is a workplace comedy and it makes sense that the show predominantly takes place at Cloud 9. But we love the characters so much that we can't help but be interested in other parts of their lives. Maybe it's wishful thinking, but could we get a glimpse at Amy and Jonah's home life? What Dina's doing without her birds?

13. Cheyenne and Amy's Friendship to Get Back on Track

Amy has always been like an older sister to Cheyenne and Cheyenne genuinely looked up to her and went to her in times of need. But lately, Cheyenne hasn't been treating Amy well and it seems like her main purpose is to team up with Mateo to make fun of her. We would love to see them go back to what they had in the first three seasons.

14. Garrett and Dina to Reconcile

There's no excusing what Garrett did, but it's tough seeing the two of them at such odds. Dina and Garrett are still a relationship that we love, and we hope that they'll be able to get past what happened during the upcoming season.

15. More Kelly Cameos

Some fans may disagree, but Kelly was always a fun addition to Superstore. While we don't want to see her reconcile her relationship with Jonah, that doesn't mean we don't want to see her at all. She was probably one of the funniest characters in the Season 4 finale, and we hope she continues to appear on Season 5.

16. Jonah's Latest Halloween Costume

Jonah's Halloween costumes are integral to Superstore. We can't explain why, but they just are. We can't wait to see everyone tease him for whatever confusing political concoction he comes up with next.

17. Continued Inclusion of Real-Life Issues

Superstore has always addressed important issues without making viewers feel like the show is pushing a political agenda. The problems come up naturally and are dealt with in very real and respectful ways. We have the utmost faith that Superstore will continue on that same path in the upcoming season.

18. Amy to Stay Manager

If this were real life we find it hard to believe that Amy would stay manager. She lied to the ICE agents and tried to help an undocumented employee escape her store. While we know it was the right thing to do, there's no way corporate will see it the same way. However, we have high hopes that Superstore will stick with their decision to keep Amy in charge.

19. Another Jaw-Dropping Finale

The best thing about Superstore is always the season finales. Have you ever seen another sitcom leave off on such crazy cliff hangers? The strike, the tornado, Jonah and Amy's sex tape, and now Mateo being detained are all jaw-dropping ways to end a season. Other comedies simply can't accomplish what Superstore can.

Superstore Quotes

It was nice of corporate to wait an entire week before they reminded us we're just as replaceable as Mateo.

Jonah

Jonah: I think he likes Taylor Swift.
Cheyenne: No, he's back to hating her again.
