The Walking Dead may be about to end ... for good!
Twitter account @TSubtitulo is claiming that the AMC juggernaut is about to conclude with its upcoming tenth season.
While this is far from official, the same Twitter account has been accurate about a myriad of other TV-related news over the years.
More recently, it reported that Santa Clarita Diet was canceled weeks before Netflix made the official announcement.
As such, this report should be taken with a pinch of salt, but we wouldn't be posting this if we thought the source was untrustworthy.
Ending the series, however, would be surprising given that despite ratings erosion it is still a monster hit for the network, pulling in better numbers than the majority of scripted TV on the broadcast networks.
Also worth noting, the show will return to San Diego Comic-Con this weekend, and that could be when the EPs and actors could make the official announcement.
The raft of departures over the last few years would make it seem like the show is entering its end game.
Andrew Lincoln departed after nine seasons last year, and Danai Gurira, his on-screen love interest has a recurring role on the tenth season.
It has also been reported that Gurira is about to leave the series behind to join Lincoln on the forthcoming trilogy of movies.
For that reason alone, this rumor could turn out to be true. It would be the perfect way to lure fans to the movies to continue to follow some of the characters.
On top of that, the comic book series that the series is based on recently concluded.
Fans thought they were going into a regular issues until they found a note that confirmed it was the conclusion of the series.
What we do know is that a third series in the franchise is in the works, and it will focus on younger people in the post-apocalyptic nightmare.
Current spin-off, Fear the Walking Dead is in its fifth season, and the ratings have been slipping throughout the season, meaning that it could also be coming to an end if the parent series is.
The Walking Dead Season 9 was a return to form for the series, thanks in large part to The Whisperers showing up and changing the dynamics.
It's possible that executives want the show to go out when it's in good creative shape.
