The Walking Dead Teases New Movies Venue & Reveals Spinoff Cast

Ever since a trilogy of movies set in The Walking Dead universe was announced, there's been one question on the minds of fans:

Where the heck will the movies air?

At the close of the show's Comic-Con panel, a teaser trailer for the movie appeared on the screen, and it had the following caption:

“Rick Grimes Returns Only In Theaters.”

Get Off Your High Horse - The Walking Dead Season 9 Episode 4

Oh yes, The Walking Dead Fanatics! The movies are heading to the big screen, which should make for a completely different experience.

News of the trilogy was confirmed last year on the same night Andrew Lincoln's final episode as part of the series aired.

At the time, we learned that the movies would follow Rick Grimes, and what happened to him after he left in the helicopter.

There have even been rumors that Danai Gurira, who confirmed her exit as Michonne earlier today, could be making the jump to the movies.

That has yet to be confirmed, so details are scarce about the project, besides the fact that it won't be airing on AMC.

Despite the show losing steam domestically in the ratings, it remains a huge brand worldwide, so it was really only a matter of time before a big-screen adventure arrived.

The teaser gave zero plot details. Instead, it gave us our first glimpse at the logo and had The Walking Dead's signature opening intro as the music.

News has also dropped about another series set in the franchise.

The third series recently scored a 10-episode order, with a 2020 premiere date confirmed by AMC.

This news series will follow “the first generation to come-of-age in the apocalypse as we know it. Some will become heroes. Some will become villains. In the end, all of them will be changed forever.”

The Americans veteran Annet Mahendru has been added to the cast as Huck. No other details about her character was revealed.

Aliyah Royale, who recently starred on CBS' one-and-done, The Red Line has also landed a lead role as Iris.

They join the previously announced cast which includes Alexa Mansour as Hope, a rebel whose sense of humor is masked by her inner sadness, Nicolas Cantu as Elton, a karate kid who is small for his age, and Hal Cumpston as Silas, a loner who relishes in the fact that he scares those around him.

Sounds like an interesting bunch, right?

Every indication is that this new series will more or less be a teen drama, but that could add an exciting layer to the franchise, assuming people are not tired of The Walking Dead-related projects.

The series is slated to get into production in Richmond, Virginia next week.

Fear the Walking Dead has managed to survive for six seasons, despite several complaints about the quality of the show.

Will this new series be able to stand the test of time?

It's certainly different.
