Krypton Canceled After Two Seasons!

at .

Syfy is parting ways with Superman's grandfather.

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Superman prequel Krypton has been canceled after two seasons.

The cancellation comes mere days after the series wrapped its second, and now final season.

Saving Seg's Life - Krypton

Krypton Season 2 sagged in the ratings, pulling in just 408,000 viewers and a paltry 0.11 rating among adults 18-49.

Vs. Season 1, this marks erosion of over 50% in the demo. For that reason alone, the cancellation is not all that surprising.

Seg Vertical - Krypton

The cabler did not own the series. It comes from an outside studio -- Warner Horizon -- meaning that it would have been more difficult than usual for the network to justify renewing it for a third season.

What's more, proposed spin-off Lobo will not be moving forward at Syfy. The spinoff entered development before Krypton collapsed in the ratings.

It certainly seems like Syfy had high hopes in creating a franchise, but the lower than expected ratings dashed those hopes.

Doomsday - Krypton Season 1 Episode 6

Lobo was poised to star Emmet J. Scanlan as the character he played on Krypton Season 2.

While Krypton seems dead in the water, Warner Horizon is said to be shopping Lobo to other networks, so there's hope that the franchise could continue.

Krypton starred Cameron Cuff as Seg-El, the father of Jor-El and future father of Kal-El aka Superman.

Mother and Son - Krypton

It focused on the House of El being ostracized and shamed as Seg set out to redeem his family's honor and save his beloved world from chaos.

Syfy has been cleaning house of late, with Krypton joining Deadly Class, Z Nation, Nightflyers, Happy!. and Channel Zero on the cancellation scrap heap.

With the increase in cancellations of late, it certainly raises questions about what the cabler plans to do in terms of scripted offerings going forward.

Voice of Rao - Krypton Season 1 Episode 6

The network's highest-rated and most-watched series, The Magicians is still in production, while acquisitions Wynonna Earp and Van Helsing are still slated to launch new seasons.

The Purge which also airs on USA Network will return later this year for its sophomore run.

Krypton Quotes

Kal-El. My future grandson. This is the story of the House of El. Our ending has yet to be written. But this is how it began. Ours is a story of sacrifice and triumph. How the House of El led a revolution against tyranny. The story of your family isn't how we died. But how we lived.

Adam: I come from a planet called Earth. A time centuries from now. And I've come here to warn you. Someone from the future is coming to destroy Krypton.
Seg: Okay, right. Why? Why would they do that?
Adam: Because where I'm from, your grandson becomes the greatest hero in the universe. Like, ever. Unless somebody changes things to make sure that he's never born...
Seg: You all right?
Adam: I'm running out of time. Take this. You have to find the fortress. You have to save Superman.
