Viola Davis is leaving the world of murder behind for her next TV role.

THR is reporting that the actress has been added to the cast of First Ladies in the role of Michelle Obama.

Yes, THAT Michelle Obama... the former First Lady of the United States.

At the moment, the series does not have a formal series order and is still in the development stage.

It does have a three script order -- each about a different First Lady of the United States. Eleanor Roosevelt and Betty Ford are said to be the basis for the other two installments.

It's certainly an intriguing concept, and having Davis playing Michelle Obama is sure to draw in a crowd.

Davis is an award-winning actress who delivers striking performances whenever she's in front of a camera.

We've watched the actress as Annalise Keating scheme her way out of murders on ABC's How to Get Away with Murder.

That series is confirmed to be ending with its forthcoming sixth season, freeing up Davis to take on new and engaging roles.

Viola Davis Attends Troop Zero Premiere

Davis is also set to executive producer the prospective series alongside her husband and producing partner Julius Tennon.

It's hard to imagine the show not snagging a series order with the inclusion of Davis alone, but these type of shows can be risky business.

Davis playing this role alone is sure to drum up a lot of publicity ahead of the premiere, and that's a good thing.

Aaron Cooley is on board to write the script.

Viola Davis Attends EE Event

If the show lands a series order, it will join a wealth of scripted originals on the premium cabler such as Shameless, Billions, Ray Donovan, Halo, Kidding, and On Becoming a God in Central Florida.
