Milo Ventimiglia Teases His Future on This Is Us: Is He Leaving?

at .

This Is Us is a unique TV series that tells its stories from multiple different time periods.

Despite Milo Ventimiglia's alter ego, Jack Pearson being dead in the present and future storylines, he has continued to appear on the show.

Ventimiglia, who directed Tuesday's installment, chatted with The Hollywood Reporter about his future on the NBC juggernaut and made it clear that fans might be seeing less of the character in upcoming episodes.

"Maybe that is a possibility," Ventimiglia told the outlet about his potential diminished role.

"Even though there may be the perception that his storylines are limited, there's always going to be some kind of relation between what the kids are going through today and what they experienced in the past, what they saw from their father in the past, or how Jack impacted or Rebecca in a way that he's always going to be with her," the actor continued.

The actor said that he was fully aware that the way the narrative on the show could mean that he would be gone from time to time.

"I'm pretty familiar with what Jack's presence is going to be through the next couple of seasons," he said.

"I know through six. But I also know that, if maybe there's some moments where you need to put Jack on the bench because some other story storylines are taking over, they can always call me out to direct those episodes."

"I think there's always going to be a version where I'm around, but maybe I'm not in front of the camera on the show."

Ventimiglia liked the opportunity to direct This Is Us, and admits that moving behind the camera felt like a natural fit.

He said that he would take on more directing roles, but that hasn't stopped him from signing up for more acting roles.

It was recently revealed that he would be a lead on the upcoming Evel Knievel series coming to USA Network.

"I don't imagine myself doing anything different than what I've been doing now," he continued to THR.

"I think it's a natural transition for actors when you are exposed to great writers, great directors, and actors and executives and everything.

You just want to put projects and people together, and you want to do things, hopefully, that audiences are going to like and love.

So I would just imagine moving forward and doing more of the same of what I've already been doing for years at a lot of different levels."

The good news is that Ventimiglia doesn't see himself departing This Is Us, and it makes sense that his character would be gone from time to time, you know, given Jack's dark fate.

This Is Us Quotes

Randall: You just don't get it.
Jack: What don't I get?
Randall: What you said before. You felt uncomfortable on a golf course and I probably wouldn't have been allowed on it.
Jack: Son, I'm sorry. That was a stupid thing to say. When I look at you, I don't see color. I just see my son.
Randall: Then you don't see me, Dad.

Mr. Lawrence: I organize my books in the classroom by year, but I should have trademarked it. It seems we have a copycat.
Kevin: Holy crap. He's like a grown-up Randall.
