On God Friended Me Season 2 Episode 5, was tasked with a decision that would alter the course of his future.
After Bishop Thompson resigned from the church leaving the position of Bishop of New York, the opportunity fell into the retired reverend's lap.
Thompson suggested that Arthur was the only qualified person to fill the role.
The offer would have been a dream come true for Arthur just a few months ago when he and Thompson ran against each other. Obviously, Thompson one.

But since then, Arthur has taken a break from the church; he's in a new phase in his life.
Being retired allows him time to play tennis and hang out with his soon-to-be-wife, Trish, who isn't exactly thrilled to see him recommit to the church.
And still, Arthur continues to be drawn to it because it's his destiny.
Therefore, this decision is momentous.
We're Not Ready to Say Goodbye to These Beloved Shows
Does he listen to his fiance's advice and pass or does he accept a position that he's worked towards his whole life?
Luckily, TV Fanatic has an exclusive clip from God Friended Me, which revealed that Arthur doesn't think twice about accepting this second chance.
In the one-minute-clip, Miles and Cara are on their way to a BBQ, but Miles isn't mentally present.
When Cara asks him where his head's at, Miles tells her definitively that his father is going to become the Bishop of New York.
"He told me this morning," he admits.
When Cara comments about how great that is, Miles seems uncertain.
"Honestly, I don't know," he shrugs.
It sounds like Arthur Finer has made up his mind, so why isn't Miles happy for his father for nabbing the opportunity of a lifetime?
Well, it's something Arthur said: "If the God Account hadn't sent us Claire's name, he wouldn't be Bishop."
As you'll recall, Bishop Thompson resigned after going to great (and illegal) lengths to help his daughter during a troubling time.
"What if the God Account wanted my dad to become Bishop?" he asks Cara.
While that doesn't seem so bad (it's cool to have 'God' in your corner helping you realize your dreams), Miles' hunch may be right. He knows the God Account better than anyone and knows there's no such thing as a coincidence.
Miles also believes the God Account has something bigger planned and wants to know how it involves him.
