Lord of the Rings TV Series Renewed at Amazon

Amazon is in it for the long haul with Lord of the Rings.
According to Deadline, the streamer has placed an order for Lord of the Rings Season 2.
The news comes as the series is in pre-production on its freshman season in New Zealand.
The writers' room is going straight back to work to craft the plot for the sophomore run.
Ever since the project was announced, it has been shrouded in secrecy, but we do know very minor details.
Joseph Mawle, who played Benjen Stark on Game of Thrones, is on board as a villain named Oren, while Will Poulter is attached to star as a young hero named Beldar.
Markella Kavenagh is to play someone named Tyra, but the rest of the casting details have been kept under wraps.
Fans of the movies and the novels will be taken on a brand new adventure that will take place before The Fellowship of the Ring.
The series will be all about expanding the world of the Lord of the Rings, and that's a good thing.
When Amazon closed a deal to bring the franchise to the streaming world, it did so with a multi-season commitment as well as with the potential for an additional spin-off series.
That means the streamer is looking to the future with the intention of the show being a hit. Given the millions of fans the other works in the franchise have, it's easy to see why Amazon would think the series would be a hit.
“The Lord of the Rings is a cultural phenomenon that has captured the imagination of generations of fans through literature and the big screen,” then-Amazon scripted chief Sharon Tal Yguado said in a statement when the show was ordered. “
We are honored to be working with the Tolkien Estate and Trust, HarperCollins and New Line on this exciting collaboration for television and are thrilled to be taking The Lord of the Rings fans on a new epic journey in Middle Earth.”
“We are delighted that Amazon, with its longstanding commitment to literature, is the home of the first-ever multi-season television series for The Lord of the Rings,” said a representative for the Tolkien Estate and Trust and HarperCollins.
“Sharon and the team at Amazon Studios have exceptional ideas to bring to the screen previously unexplored stories based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s original writings.”
