Pearson: Suits Spinoff Canceled at USA Network

Jessica Pearson's term in the Windy City is over.

USA Network has canceled Pearson after just one season.

The Suits spinoff followed Gina Torres' former lawyer as she found herself caught up in the dirty world of Chicago politics, accepting the role of fixer for the city's mayor, played by Homeland's Morgan Spector.

The cast also included Simon Kassianides as a cop/the mayor’s driver, Bethany Joy Lenz as city attorney Keri Allen, Chantel Riley as Jessica’s cousin Angela, Isabel Arraiza as Jessica’s assistant Yoli and Eli Goree as the mayor’s press secretary Derrick.

Pearson Season 1 was saddled by soft ratings from the get-go. It launched in July to 570,000 viewers and a 0.12 rating in the demo. The good thing was that it was mostly steady throughout its run.

It ultimately averaged 513,000 viewers and a 0.10 rating and enjoyed some nice gains post-airdate, but it simply wasn't enough to continue the show.

USA Network had paired it with the final season of parent series, Suits, but the series held around half of the lead-in. Maybe taking Jessica out of the world of law was not the best idea.

In the demo, Pearson ranked ninth of nine shows on the cable network, just narrowly coming in behind the final season of Mr. Robot

Because the entire season was filmed before the series premiered, the show did not get a conclusive ending, with Jessica telling the mayor she would help fix one last problem, but admitting that she was through with him.

It certainly set up an exciting Pearson Season 2, but we will likely never see what happens next ... unless Suits decides to go the revival route, and we learn through that what became of Jessica.

Hey, anything can happen these days!
