American Horror Story’s Jessica Lange Reveals Whether She’d Ever Return

If you've been holding out hope for Jessica Lange to return to any future editions of American Horror Story, then we have some bad news:

Jessica Lange has seemingly quashed a return as a new character to the franchise.

The actress appeared in the first four seasons of the FX anthology (Murder House, Asylum, Coven, and Freak Show), before returning as a guest for last year's Apocalypse.

But Lange does not like the idea of starting as a new character.

"I don't think I would want to start from scratch and create a character," the actress told The Wrap.

"And also I think a lot of the actors that I was working with, people that I really love working with, like Sarah [Paulson] or Frances [Conroy] or Kathy [Bates] – I don't know who's in this new season [1984], but I don't think it would be the same."

"We were like a troupe. We were like the old-fashioned kind of troupe of actors, just moving from one part to the other."

"And that was part of what I really loved about doing it was you'd come back with a whole different story, different characters, but the same actors year after year. And that was wonderful."

"But I don't think that would be the case now and I don't think I would want to start over from scratch really. I don't think that will happen."

Lange does bring up a great point: American Horror Story: 1984 has cast members who mostly did not appear in the first four seasons.

The highly anticipated ninth chapter in the anthology series debuts tonight at 10/9c only on FX.

Plot details are scarce, but we do know that it will be set on 1984 at the mysterious Camp Redwood.

Beyond that, we don't know much aside from the cast, which includes Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, Leslie Grossman, Cody Fern, Matthew Morrison, Gus Kenworthy, John Carroll Lynch, Angelica Ross, and Zach Villa.
