We’ve been waiting patiently to find out what happens next for Booth and Brennan after the cliffhanger at the end of Bones Season 9.
With just a few days remaining before Bones Season 10 Episode 1, what can David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel tell us about the upcoming season?
“Being in prison brings up a lot of stuff for Booth,” said Deschanel on a conference call with reporters, adding that Booth has PTSD.
From the sounds of things, we’ll get to see a change in Booth’s character, as well as new dynamics in his relationship with Brennan. They’ll struggle and, at times, Brennan will have to re-evaluate the relationship in some ways.
“It will obviously bring them closer together,” Boreanaz notes after talking about some of the conflicts the two will have. “I think that throughout these seasons we’ve always maintained the relationship.”
Booth’s imprisonment doesn’t just affect his relationship with Brennan, though. He also has two children. How they’re dealing with all of this will also be addressed this season.
The characters will be getting back to everyday life, too, including normal parenting decisions. Deschanel talked about her own parenting experience, and how in some ways she finds that she and Brennan are not so different.
“I certainly was similar to Brennan in that I’m researching as many schools as possible," she said.
And what about that new FBI agent? Deschanel said that James Aubry was originally sent to spy on Booth. This is a recurring role, so it will be interesting to see what the new character will add to the series.
What else can we look forward to this season? Another undercover episode, for one thing. And apparently these episodes are as much fun to film as they are to watch! Boreanaz talked about how much fun these are to shoot, saying that he and Deschanel always “have a blast” with these episodes.
The 200th episode is also coming up this season. Deschanel said it will be “very different” and something that we haven’t seen in quite a while.
“It’s going to be fun. I think it’s going be great opportunity to enjoy the 200th episode, but on top of it kind of give something back to the fans,” said Boreanaz.
And if you’re wondering what it’s been like for the actors to film these upcoming episodes (and the end of season 9), just know they’ve been working very hard. Deschanel said there have been long hours as well as some “intense emotions.” But this is what’s going to make the upcoming season so great.
“We’re not just resting on our laurels here,” Deschanel said. “We’re taking this to the next level.”
