Chloe King was adopted from the Ukraine when she was young, and now lives in San Francisco with her mother. When she turns 16, her life changes. Chloe finds out that she is part of a mutant human race, called the Mai, that has cat-like abilities. Although these super human powers are extremely awesome, the Mai have been hunted down by humans for thousands of years, so Chloe now has to juggle the complications of being a teenager in high school along with trying to save her race from being wiped out.
