Our Game of Thrones critic, Carissa, did not find this week’s episode the strongest in the series in her review. But don’t worry, she’s ready to sit down with the rest of our GoT round table panelists to discuss this week’s episode.
With topics from hunting trips to golden crowns, there was plenty for our team to analyze and inject bad jokes about. So let’s get tabling!
1. Favorite Game of Thrones quotes from the episode?
Carissa P: Robert Arryn: Can I make the little man fly now? Tyrion: Not this little man. This little man is going home now
Dan F: Cersei: I should wear this like a badge of honor.
Robert: Wear it in silence, or I’ll honor you again.
Robert standing up for himself and his hand. Good man!
Jim G: Dani: “He was not a real dragon, fire does not hurt a real dragon.” To an outside observer, this comment sounds like her mind coping with the death of her brother; as if she needed someway to rationalize not helping him. However, given that she was handling the dragon egg without a burn when her hand-maid *was* burned the comment seems to be the absolute truth!
Eric H: Lysa Arryn: “You don’t fight with honor!” Bronn: “No, he did.”
2. Not that I’m condoning violence against women, how much did you hate Cersei this week!?
Carissa P: Honestly, just when you get a little compassion for the wench she goes off on those lies again. Frankly, I would have punched her. Skipped the slap altogether. Of course, I’m a woman, so it’s allowed
Jim G: THIS is the Cersei from the book! For those who have not read the book, this is the b!tch we all loath and want to slap more often than not. I will give credit to Lena Headey, she did a fantastic job making us all want to smack her senseless.
Dan F: I don’t think she was in it enough to really get me to hate her just yet. With no background from the book, she just seemed a bit bitchy, rather than someone I really hated. That being said she did have those slaps – and apparently Carissa’s punch – coming to her.
Eric H: Exactly like Jim said it. We’re finally starting to see the Cersei from the book that drove us all nuts. The beautiful Lena Headey has just made this character too likable until now.
3. Worst hunting partner? A Lannister squire, a member of the former mad King’s former Kingsguard, your scheming brother?
Carissa P: All three? That was the most pathetic hunting party I’ve ever seen. At least the squire keeps wine in his belly. The other two just droned on and annoyed all the animals away. Definitely not how I pictured that hunt.
Jim G: Yes…. its a 3 way tie… I think Robert has less to worry about from what he is hunting and more to worry about him being coming the hunted!
Dan F: Ties are like kissing your sister. The brother was the worst. The other two were minding their own business, and the squire was nice enough to be the little wine boy, so it has to be the brother. Dude just had to cause a raucous when Robert was trying to relax a bit.
Eric H: Dick Cheney. Man, five years later and it’s still funny. Uh, I mean Renly. Not only is the guy scheming behind your back to take your crown, he’s kind of a wuss. When those boa’s come attacking, I’d only rely on Ser Barristan and the wine from my squire.
4. Viserys getting his “Golden Crown.” Best ending to an episode yet?
Carissa P: My favorite ending was Bran waking up right after Lady lost her life. But watching the crown burn into that numskulls head was right up there.
Jim G: Yes, and nearly as I imagined it from the book. On the first episode when he was such as jack-ass I was counting the episodes till he got his crown!
Dan F: Fantastic yes, but not as good as Jamie saying “The things I do for love” and shoving Brann out of the window. It set the scene for the entire series. From that point on I knew that nothing was off limits, like burning someone’s head with hot gold, for example. Man it was nice to see him get his comeuppance.
Eric H: Wow, Dan and Carissa going for the two clutch Bran scenes. Maybe it was just my raw hatred of Viserys, but like Jim I was counting down episodes until his death. I got giddy just when I saw this week’s title and new he was getting what he deserved.
5. How much do you love Bronn!?
Dan F: I love anyone who helps out my man Tyrion.
Carissa P: He made great strides in being one to watch this week. Anyone who sticks up for Tyrion wins in my book. Kind of funny how he championed Tyrion when he initially worked with Catelyn to detain him. Having no need for loyalties seems fun.
Jim G: I loved the shrug he gave Tyrion after he offered to champion him. He is one of the best characters in the show!
Eric H: Sorry for the fan girl question guys. 11. The guy is hilarious, took my honor of top quote from Tyrion, his shifting loyalties embody everything that is the Song of Ice and Fire series, and he championed for Tyrion when no one else would. Great character.
Bonus Question: Where are Jon Snow and the direwolves!?
Carissa P: Where indeed? The lack of direwolves is the WORST aspect of the series adaptation. They have done a grave injustice to the understanding of the Starks, the children in particular, without their presence. I could always use more Jon Snow. That my favorite characters are all over the map really makes it difficult to stuff them into the same episodes. They are: Tyrion, Jon, Arya, Dany and the direwolves.
Jim G: I understand we get to see them in Episode 7 that is on HBOgo.com. I personally have opted to wait till next Sunday and watch it at it’s normal time.. I am glad they will be coming back around.
Dan F: Tell me about it! I was angry enough when Jon Snow was left out of the last episode, but two in a row? We Want the Wall!
Eric H: Wow, we even have Dan on board with the dire wolves complaints. Looks like I have to make that regular question a la Gossip Girl’s VUS. My biggest issue this week? Where were they when Bran got attacked!? Oh and don’t worry, I miss you too, Jon. I’ll send a raven with these Round Table to keep you occupied.
