With Halloween well upon us, it is only natural to want to enjoy some spooky content from time to time.
There aren’t many horror shows on TV that last long, possibly because the former doesn’t always fit for a weekly watch when a binge format makes more sense.
Regardless, a show doesn’t have to be in the horror genre to have an episode or a specific scene that stays with you long after.

The Haunting of Hill House if the perfect example of a successful horror show that thrives because of the binge-watching aspect. In a few short weeks, this show is well known on the internet for its significant episodes and inspiring fright shots. Trying to choose just one seems ridiculous, so mentioning The Bent Neck Lady is like a terrifying catch-all.
American Horror Story – Twisty the Clown Hanging Around
American Horror Story has an advantage in that it is a horror show that is consistently trying to one-up what it did the year before. Narrowing it down a bit, Murder House had some of the most frightening revelations like Violet discovering that she died a while ago. Meanwhile, Freak Show made all our clown nightmares even more vivid, with a sad backstory only mildly taking away that fear.
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina – Corn Maze Horror
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is a dark show in general, but there is something about that scene with the scarecrow in the pilot that stays with you. It is the first real jump scare of the show, and it relies heavily on the corn maze setting to make it even that much more chilling.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer – The Gentleman
This is a fan favorite scare fest, not because of the villains themselves, more so because of the silence. The Gentlemen steal everyone’s voices so we can’t hear their victims scream and it is a unique approach in inducing fear.
Slasher – Glenn Kidnapping Noah
Slasher has a built-in expectation to deliver on scary scenes regularly, something it always achieves. Slasher: The Guilty Party raised the stakes though, making one of the scariest scenes connected to an assault.
Supernatural – Bloody Mary
Bloody Mary was a story meant to scare us as children, and Supernatural playing on that fear is why not everyone will be able to make it through the episode. There isn’t even a specific scene that stands out; it is all worth being prepared for.
The Walking Dead – Negan and Lucille
“The Day Will Come When You Won’t Be” is horrifying because death is looming for a few characters and having to go through that with them stays with the audience for sure.
The Vampire Diaries – Katherine Appears
The Vampire Diaries in its early seasons was much scarier, and it worked exceedingly well. Moments like Katherine showing up and killing Uncle John when he thought she was Elena? That is all kinds of iconic.
Twin Peaks – Killer BOB Introduction
Twin Peaks is confusing on its best days which is why it is essential to watch it with an open mind. But what really sticks out has to be that Bob shot where he comes at the camera, terrorizing the viewer from there on out.
The Exorcist – Casey Falling Victim to the Devil
The show was an anthology, so each season had a different possession, but that first story has to be ranked the scariest. The Exorcist was still starting so you had no clue what approach they would be taking, so every hint of someone being possessed and displaying those chilling signs worked very well.
The X-Files – The Peacock Family
It feels ridiculous even to mention which episode is the scariest, but it only makes sense to pay “Home” some well-deserved praise. Based off a frightening story of a real family similar to the one portrayed in this episode, Mulder and Scully discover a terrifying secret in that house. Any scenes after the truth are shared with them and with the audience has the potential to be terrifying
Black Mirror – VR Plot Twist
Playtest explores a thrill-seeking guy who decides to test a video game that is very advanced. The concept of VR begs the question of what is real and what is not, only for the ending to punch you when you least expect it. Black Mirror delivers above and beyond like always.
Scream – Brooke Getting Her Answer About Jake
Scream has two iconic scenes meant to mirror horror movies for those knowledgeable fans that are watching the show. Brooke having blood and guts dropped on her was Carrie at its most well known, but there was also Emma trying to save Will only to have him gutted in front of her like someone would see in Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
