These shows are prime examples of how NOT to end a series.
Toggle through the worst finales in TV history now.
The Good Wife
The Good Wife left many storylines hanging. But it also reverse-engineered a slap that didn’t feel earned, leaving its main character in a terrible position and painting her in a negative light. The creators admittedly had the final scene written months ahead of time and didn’t do a very good job of building up momentum (or logic) leading up to it.

Sons of Anarchy
Talk about dragging out the obvious! The Sons of Anarchy finale was two hours for some reason, despite very little happening and the ending having been forecasted for weeks on end. We never thought we’d say this about SOA, but it was just boring.

True Blood
Sookie helped Bill kill himself because he didn’t think she could live a normal life with him around. So much for true love. And for the notion of True Blood as a wild and crazy series who definied “normal” in its own eccentric ways.

How I Met Your Mother
How I Met Your Mother killed off the mother AND split up Barney and Robin. In a word…. why?!?!?

Dexter
Dexter killed off Deb, left Harrison to be raised by a serial killer and turned Dexter into a lumberjack.

Gossip Girl
A happy ending for two couples? Yes. But Dan as Gossip Girl?!? Come on. Moreover, nothing could save the generally reviled final season(s).

The Sopranos
Call us crazy, but a series finale should not leave fans wondering if their cable went out.

Lost
No, they weren’t all dead all along. But, yes, many of those unanswered questions will forever remain unanswered.

Weeds
Following Nancy and Andy finally having sex on the penultimate episode, Weeds skipped ahead eight years on its finale. So much for organic storytelling.

Seinfeld
The show about nothing tried to make itself about something on the series finale. Big mistake.

Big Love
What happened to Joey and Wanda? What about Tinny? The Big Love finale left many characters dangling… and it killed off Bill!

Desperate Housewives
Ghosts?!? Yes, ghosts. The Desperate Housewives finale concluded with a few apparitions coming out to say hello and a new housewife, with a secret of her own, moving in.

Castle
ABC canceled Castle just days prior to the Season 8 finale, forcing producers to air a hastily put-together concluding scene that gave Kate and Rick a happy ending. But it was rushed and sloppy and made it very clear that the series was planning for a ninth season without Stana Katic on board.
