The popularity of drinking wine has grown significantly over the last few years. To the point where women who love wine are all over TV now.
They’re drinking because their husband is a secret drug dealer or their lover is married or they see death on a daily basis. You know, normal stuff. Vino helps them cope.
Of course, there are those that just drink wine for fun or because they enjoy the taste or even just because they can.
While they drink it for different reasons, under very different circumstances, these females have one thing in common – they are all strong.
Call me crazy, but I think the wine has something to do with that.
Cersei Lannister – Game of Thrones
In between carrying on taboo affairs and plotting deaths of various family members, Cersei makes sure to always have a handmaiden on hand to refill her glass.
Jules Cobb – Cougar Town
If you love to “pound grape” and make fun of your neighbors, you may be Jules’ long lost BFF. Just don’t forget to bring your own oversized wine glass affectionally named Big (insert any name here).
Claire Underwood – House of Cards
Being first lady is stressful. Almost as stressful as being married to Francis. While Claire handles it better than most, she still turns to wine for relief at the end of a long hard day.
Claire Dunphy – Modern Family
Claire does it all — she’s a fun mom, a loyal wife, and CEO of a lucrative business. Does wine help her balance those resposibilites? I’m sure it does as she is regularly seen throwing back a few glasses.
Alicia Florrick – The Good Wife
As the wife of a politician, Alicia got used to staying home and having her daily glass of wine. After her husband’s scandal, she was forced to go back to work but she didn’t give up her wine. If anything, she needed it more.
Alison Hendrix – Orphan Black
Alison appears to be a normal, type-A, suburban mom but she’s really a clone who drinks like a fish and can make dead bodies disappear better than Dexter.
Penny Hofstadter – The Big Bang Theory
Penny doesn’t need alcohol to have fun (she’s the life of the party!) but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t likes a little wine on special occasions and girls nights and with dinner… Well, basically any day that ends in Y.
Helen Solloway – The Affair
Helen was raised in an upperclass family that drinks wine like water. As an adult, she often drinks to forget about her cheating ex-husband, whom she still loves, and his mistress turned wife.
Linda Belcher – Bob’s Burgers
She may not be the cool mom but she is definitely the fun one. Just don’t accuse her of being drunk when she’s only had half of four bottles of wine. She knows her limit! Still, no matter what she says, stop her when she gets to 16.
Mindy Lahiri – The Mindy Project
Mindy may be a mess — she once fell asleep during a movie and spilled so much red wine that when she woke up she thought she had been shot — but at least she’s a hot mess. She also has an amazing wine bra to keep her company.
Olivia Pope – Scandal
Olivia can fix everyone’s problems except her own and she’s got a lot — running OPA, consulting with the White House, sleeping with the President when she’s not sleeping with his right hand man. Luckily, for her own problems, she has red wine and popcorn.
Skyler White – Breaking Bad
Being married to Walter White was intense. It’s not easy protecting your family from the man who’s supposed to be protecting it but Skyler got by with a little help from her wine.
Valerie Meyers – Casual
Valerie is adjusting to life after divorce which is tough. She was forced to move her and her daughter into her brother’s house while her husband moved on with a young grad student. Can you blame the woman for needing to drink some wine in the bath tub fully clothed?
Carrie Mathison – Homeland
Carries gets a little crazy and mixes her wine with meds. I wouldn’t recommend it but then again I’ve never worked for the CIA so maybe I just don’t know about job stress.
Tami Taylor – Friday Night Lights
Tami had A LOT going for her. Beloved by everyone who knew her, she deserves all the wine she can handle as a reward for the good she did as a principal, counselor, wife, mother and friend.
Lindsay Jillian – You’re the Worst
Lindsay will drink anything, as will her friends, but Lindsay is never stronger when she’s drinking, and she looks cute as hell going for the bottle here, doesn’t she?
Liz Lemon – 30 Rock
Liz is one of the strongest characters we’ve ever known, so wine can only make her stronger, right? We know she loves it. And if she can drink it while on the treadmill, she’s a wine drinker for the ages, you guys!
