The most frustrating part of being a shipper is witnessing those kisses that just don’t count.
They’re usually placed in a show for comedic effect, to keep a character’s cover, or really, just to drive viewers crazy.

The kiss doesn’t usually start up a romance for the couple as it didn’t happen because of the characters feelings for each other. But sometimes, it does bring those feelings to the surface.

Ryn and Maddie’s goodbye kiss – Siren
Ryn didn’t actually know what a kiss meant, so she accidentally developed the understanding that it’s something you do to say goodbye. Maddie was surprised, but it didn’t seem like she was opposed to what was happening.
Veronica and Jugheads “evening the score” kiss – Riverdale
They may have only kissed to “cancel out” Betty and Archie’s kiss, but did anyone else see some chemistry here? Like it or not, these two have potential.
Conrad and Nic’s on-call room kiss – The Resident
This one might be pushing it because it definitely did count for Conrad. But Nic was just going along with it to lock him in the on-call room.
Kat and Alex’s drunken kiss – The Bold Type
This kiss was just meant to be hilarious and nothing more. Kat was so drunk that she planted one on Alex and the “WTF” look on both of their faces was the funniest part of the episode.
Jim and Pam’s victory kiss – The Office
Pam was drunk as a skunk throughout this entire episode. After she won a Dundie, she was so excited that she ran up to Jim and planted one on him. Even though it obviously meant something to Jim, they never talked about it again. Odds are, Pam didn’t even remember it the next morning.
Meredith and Alex’s dream kiss – Grey’s Anatomy
Thank goodness this didn’t happen in real life. As much as we love these two, we couldn’t stand them being anything more than best friends.
Dan and Blair’s staged kiss – Gossip Girl
This is only one of Dan and Blair’s “fake kisses.” As Dan said himself, for two people who claim to just be friends they sure do choreograph a lot of reasons to kiss.
Britta and Jeff’s…kind of kiss? – Community
Circumstances aside, does this even count as a kiss? Besides it being absolutely cringe-worthy for a lot of different reasons, this is not how a kiss normally goes.
Jonah and Amy’s accidental kiss – Superstore
“How do two people accidentally kiss?” you might ask. Well, we didn’t think it was possible until Amy and Jonah proved us wrong. They were so busy pretending that they wanted to kiss each other that they both turned their heads at just the right moment and BAM!
Chuck and Sarah’s cover kiss – Chuck
Sarah kisses Chuck to indicate that they need to speak privately about a mission, but it’s obvious that they both have feelings for each other. Chuck even tries to convince Sarah to date him, but she believes it’s unprofessional because of their work.
Castle and Beckett’s fake-out kiss – Castle
This kiss was supposed to be just a ploy, but when Castle and Beckett pulled away it was clear that it meant something more to both of them. And the badass takedown of the guy watching them was pretty awesome too.
Jake and Amy’s undercover kiss – Brooklyn Nine-Nine
Jake and Amy kiss several times throughout this episode as a means to keep their cover. But those “fake” kisses lead to a real one in the last few minutes of the finale.
Joey and Rachel’s New Year kiss – Friends
Joey and Rachel would go on to become a couple eventually, but this kiss was just your standard New Years liplock.
Emma and Hook’s life saving kiss – Once Upon a Time
As much as we wanted them to kiss for real, Emma was really just giving Hook CPR so he wouldn’t die. But it was good enough for the curse placed upon Hook’s lips, and Emma lost her magic as a result.
Stiles and Lydia’s panic attack kiss – Teen Wolf
If someone’s having a panic attack, kissing them is probably not a good idea. But it worked in this situation and it was also the moment that Lydia began to fall in love with Stiles.
Sam and Freddie’s practice kiss – iCarly
Sam and Freddie’s kiss was just too good not to include. They may have been simultaneously best friends and enemies, but when they both realized the other had never been kissed they decide to just get it over with.
Amy and Karma’s pep rally kiss – Faking It
To be fair, none of their kisses counted in Karma’s mind seeing as they were just faking their relationship. But to Amy, every single one was very real.
