Goodbyes are hard, but sometimes, you’re lucky enough to get some closure.
In this case, NBC gifted Timeless fans with closure for the holiday season.
Following the outrage from dedicated fans, the network greenlit a two-hour series finale movie that will air on December, 20.

This is technically the second time NBC “saved” the series, but as we reach the homestretch, we’re wondering if the time-traveling squad will reverse the damage done on the Timeless Season 2 cliffhanger and save their beloved friend, Rufus.
Here’s what we’re hoping the finale movie addresses before we permanently send Lucy, Rufus, and Wyatt off in the time machine!
Rufus’ Rescue
We left off on a major cliffhanger: Rufus died, and future Wyatt and Lucy emerged from the time machine to help the present-day squad save their friend. Rufus’ rescue mission will surely be the focus of the film because we need our dynamic trio reunited before the hour is up.
Fun with the Dopplegangers
The addition of future Lucy and Wyatt opens up a lot of possibilities. For one, they know what happens in the future which means they will be very insightful when it comes to providing answers to some of our other lingering questions. Plus, it’ll be entertaining to see both sets of characters interact with one another and see how they’ve grown as heroes. Future Lucy does look pretty badass!
Two Places at Once?
Throughout the two seasons, all of the time traveling was done to time periods where Lucy, Flynn, Wyatt and Rufus didn’t already exist. So how were future Lucy and Wyatt able to travel to a time period where they not only existed, but they were able to confront their past selves? Were they able to find a glitch in the future? Did they invent a new time machine with advanced capabilities? How would this not cause some kind of time warp? Answers, please.
The Mystery of the Journal
Again, traveling back to a time where you exist used to be frowned up, but since it is now a possibility, does that mean future Lucy was the one who traveled back in time to give Flynn the journal? Why was the journal so important in the first place? Why did she give it to Flynn of all people? And did future Wyatt know about it?
Wyatt or Flynn?
It’s no secret that both these men harbor deep feelings for Lucy. Can you blame them? She’s lovely. The love triangle must have resolved in the future, so we need to know if Lucy picked Flynn or Wyatt. Both have their pros and cons: Lucy and Wyatt have more chemistry, but their love story was cut short by Jessica’s resurrection. On the other hand, Flynn understands Lucy on an emotional level, but his motivations have always been to bring back his wife and kids. Truthfully, I’m fine with either love interest just as long as Lucy is happy.
What Happened To Wyatt and Jessica’s Baby?
Jessica is a traitor so we don’t wish her well, but her baby with Wyatt is still a major concern. Does the baby survive? Does Wyatt raise him/her with Lucy’s help? Does the baby join the fight against Rittenhouse in the future? Is the baby a crucial piece to solving the mystery? Does the baby even exist? I could see Jessica lying about it in the first place.
Jessica Gets What’s Coming to Her
As I said, Jessica is a backstabbing B who was resurrected by Rittenhouse so she could infiltrate Wyatt’s team and steal the time machine. While we hope nothing happens to the innocent baby, we also don’t wish her well. I hope she gets whatever is coming to her. Bye, Felicia.
Emma Gets What’s Coming to Her Too
Another character that deserves whatever is coming her way. Emma is the villain we loved to hate. She was loyal to Rittenhouse, but also occasionally helped out the time-team so maybe there’s hope for her after all? Otherwise, Lucy needs to be the one the end her. Also, I don’t know how it could be possible, but I’m convinced Emma is going to end up being Lucy’s grandmother!
Lucy Finds Amy
Since the pilot episode, Lucy’s underlying mission has been to find her sister, Amy, who was erased from existence when Lucy went on her first mission. Lucy later found out that her mother made sure Amy could never come back, which is heartbreaking because Amy spent most of her time taking care of her terminally ill mother. She deserved better so hopefully, Amy and Lucy will finally be reunited.
Some Clarity on Jiya’s Visions
We’re well aware that Jiya’s visions show us what happens in the future, but there’s more we need to know. What are the mechanics behind them? Are they still dangerous? Jiya seems to have gotten a better grasp of them, and her own badassery, during her time spent in 1888 Chinatown, so I’d like to see her have more control and use them for the positive in the final two hours.
Justice For Flynn and His Family
There are many avenues we can go down with Flynn. Does Flynn get his family back? His family has been what’s driven him this whole time, but as we saw with Wyatt and Jessica, bringing back those who passed doesn’t necessarily bring back happiness. Does he end up with Lucy? Or does he die? Maybe he was always dead in the future which is why future Lucy brought him the journal? Either way, Flynn has given up everything to fight for what’s right and prevent Rittenhouse so he needs justice.
Connors Return to His Glory Days
Following the collapse of Mason Industries, Connor’s name didn’t hold as much clout which was hard for him to accept. Considering his impressive advances in time travel, I hope he finds his way back to those glory days. He’s too brilliant to be tucked away in the shadows and underground bunkers.
Rufus and Jiya’s Reunion
Lucy, Wyatt and Flynn may be the head love triangle on the series, but there’s no way Rufus and Jiya don’t end up together. We love that they’ll do anything to protect each other and adore when they nerd-out together. Can we see a happy ending for them once #SaveRufus is successful? Maybe some Jufus babies? One can only hope.
The Permanent Destruction of Rittenhouse
The goal from the beginning has been to take down Rittenhouse, therefore, the only way this show ends, and our time traveling trio succeeds, is if Rittenhouse is completely destroyed. At this point, the only remaining members include Jessica and Emma, so the odds seem to be in Lucy, Wyatt and Rufus’ favor. That is unless there are more sleeper agents placed in various moments throughout history. I guess we’ll find out.
What Happened to Lucy’s Father?
Benjamin Cahill is the biological father of Lucy Preston and an agent of Rittenhouse. He was arrested on Timeless Season 1 Episode 16, but I feel he was sorely underused for being from a prominent Rittenhouse family and having so much pull over Lucy, who is considered to be of “royal blood.” Could getting rid of him be that easy? I wouldn’t mind if he was still running things from the shadows and showed up to stick it to his daughter for defying her “destiny” one last time.
More Historical Visits
We know the episode is going to be structured as two parts, which means we get to embark on two adventures to various time periods. Much of the show’s success stems from the time squad teaming-up with impressive historical figures who are wise and usually ahead of their time.
A Proper Wrap Up
We’re grateful NBC decided to honor the show and the fans by giving the series a proper sendoff, however, two hours is barely enough time. Hopefully, the writers don’t rush for the sake of wrapping up every storyline and focus on giving fans the most satisfying experience.
