There’s no doubt that characters can have as many flings or relationships as they want.
There comes a time when they need to take a break from their search for romance, and start doing some soul searching instead.
Archie Andrews – Riverdale It’s hard to believe that Riverdale’s first season was only 13 episodes, considering that Archie had five different love interests throughout it. We get that the Archie/Betty/Veronica love triangle had to be a thing, but did they have to throw his teacher, Cheryl, and Valerie in there at the same time?
Callie Foster – The Fosters The real question is, who didn’t Callie date? Callie is, of course, at liberty to be with whoever she pleases, but things were getting excessive on The Fosters. She constantly played with everyone’s heart and bounced from one person to the next in no time at all.
Lexie Grey – Grey’s Anatomy Lexie somehow ended up in relationships with all three of Grey’s Anatomy’s most eligible bachelors. Mark, Jackson, and Alex all dated her at one point or another, even though Sloan was the only person she ever had chemistry with.
Hakeem Lyon – Empire Hakeem has a baby with his dad’s ex-wife and spent a lot of time in on and off relationships. It was hard to focus on his storyline when there was so much romantic drama in the way.
Simon Lewis – Shadowhunters It took Simon far too long to realize that his soulmate had always been right in front of him. It’s easy to forget that Simon was dating his bandmate until he confessed his love for Clary and ended up in a serious relationship with his best friend. After that ended, he quickly entered into a relationship with Maia, which lasted for quite some time. Meanwhile, we were all just waiting for Sizzy to happen.
Oliver Queen – Arrow Because of how devoted Oliver and Felicity are to each other, it’s easy to forget that they weren’t together during the first couple seasons of Arrow. Oliver had serious relationships with Laurel, her sister Sara, Shado (through flashbacks), Helena, and McKenna all over the span of two seasons. Not to mention that the show was also building up his romance with Felicity through that time period.
Will Schuester – Glee Will got called out on the show itself for having too many love interests. While he was supposed to be figuring things out with Emma, he was still technically married to Terry, making out with Shelby, and having sleepovers with April Rhodes. Will, take a breather.
Serena Van Der Woodsen – Gossip Girl When she wasn’t with Dan or Nate, Serena seemed to have a new love interest every day. Serena was always trying to find herself during Gossip Girl’s run, and it probably would have gone better if the writers allowed her to spend some time alone.
The Doctor – Doctor Who The Doctor doesn’t ever have a shortage of love interests. Life as a Time Lord provides a lot of opportunities to find romance, but we’ll never accept him with anyone other than Rose Tyler.
Temperance “Bones” Brennan – Bones None of Brennan’s love interests held a candle to Booth. Watching them all vie for her attention when her heart was obviously elsewhere was both pointless and excessive.
Veronica Mars – Veronica Mars Veronica Mars’ true love always has been and always will be Logan Echolls. But before she and Logan made things official, she had several different love interests throughout the show and it began to feel like they weren’t serving much of a purpose.
Jessica Day – New Girl New Girl was always at its best when Jess and Nick were together. Putting Jess with multiple different people, some of which made no sense, always seemed like a desperate ploy to keep the “will they/won’t they” aspect of Ness’ relationship alive.
Jerry Seinfeld – Seinfeld Is it just us, or did it seem like Jerry had a new love interest every episode? We get that Seinfeld is supposed to be a comedy, but enough is enough. Make jokes about something else, instead.
Caroline Forbes – The Vampire Diaries Were you on Team Matt? Team Tyler? Team Stefan? Team Klaus? Almost all of Caroline’s relationships held equal weight when it came to their importance in her life. Shipping Caroline with anyone turned out to be harder than expected since all of her options were pretty great.
Ted Mosby – How I Met Your Mother Ted Mosby is the king of too many love interests. Almost every time he met someone new he was confident that he would marry her. But as Ted said himself, if it wouldn’t have been for all his past relationships, he never would have met his wife.
Todd Rodriguez – The Last Man on Earth Gail, Melissa, and Erica all seemed to be after Todd around the same time. There was a lot of drama going on with all three of these women, and it made the situation feel over the top.
Scott McCall – Teen Wolf Scott didn’t have too many love interests…he just had too many serious love interests. Scott was in a serious relationship with 3 out of the 4 girls in his friend group, and it started to feel like the writers just wanted Scott to have a romance with everyone.
Barry Allen – The Flash Even before Barry married Iris his life definitely wasn’t lacking in the love department. Within the first two seasons, he dated multiple different women while pining for his best friend, and at one point it even seemed as if he and Caitlin were going to go somewhere.
Liza Miller – Younger Does she love Charles or does she love Josh? The world may never know. Liza spent the first four seasons of Younger being head over heels for Josh, but she was simultaneously attracted to her boss. When she wasn’t trying to figure out her differing feelings for the two leading men in her life, she had insignificant love interests that ended up going nowhere.
