But when mixed with the supernatural, television can bring something new into the mix. Romantic relationships have the ability to be between two people of different species.
Lucifer and Chloe – Lucifer It’s not often that the devil falls in love with a human, but that’s exactly what happened in Lucifer and Chloe’s case. Complications really set it when Lucifer was forced to go back to hell and leave the woman he loved behind.
Michael and Alex – Roswell, New Mexico Michael and Alex knew each other for a decade before Alex realized the truth about him. But even after discovering that Michael was an alien, it didn’t change how much he loved him.
Yaphit and Dr. Finn – The Orville We’re not sure if we can call this sexual experience resulting from rouge alien pheromones a romance, but there was definitely something happening between Yaphit and Dr. Finn here.
Helo and Athena – Battlestar Galactica A relationship between a human and Cylon was bound to have complications, and Helo and Athena had their fair share of ups and downs. But somehow, a romance between them made perfect sense.
Alec and Magnus – Shadowhunters Alec and Magnus’ love managed to change the entire Shadow World for the better. Not only was Alec a Shadowhunter while Magnus was a Downworlder, but they were the Head of the Institute and the High Warlock of Brooklyn. They proved to everyone that love is love and that prejudice needs to be thrown out the window.
(John Medland/Freeform) Matthew and Diana – A Discovery of Witches When a witch and a vampire start a relationship, not everyone is going to be completely on board with it. As it turns out, Matthew and Diana’s love was a huge violation of the Covenant.
Eric and Sookie – True Blood Sookie found herself in a relationship with not one, but two vampires. What is it with girls always ending up in a vampire-themed love triangle? Even though there was a strong case for Eric and Sookie to be together, Sookie ended up with a human husband.
Ben, Ryn, and Maddie – Siren Ben and Maddie didn’t expect to fall in love with a mermaid, but Siren has become one giant love fest. It can be difficult at times when Ryn has to go back to the water, but at the end of the day, she always comes back to them.
Amberle and Eretria – The Shannara Chronicles Amberle and Eretria may not have been a couple, but there was a lot of ship teasing there. Eretria was a human and Amberle was an elf, and the two species didn’t take kindly to each other. But they ended up going from enemies to much more and we’re still bitter we never saw a proper romance develop between them.
Jason and Janet – The Good Place Jason is a human and we’re not really sure what Janet is. She was a robot, but she’s begun to evolve into someone with real feelings and emotions. They’re a pair we never expected to love.
Buffy and Angel – Buffy the Vampire Slayer Buffy and Angel are one of the couples that started the vampire craze. It’s ironic that Buffy the Vampire Slayer fell for an actual vampire, but they ended up being an incredibly pure and beautiful ship.
Liz and Max – Roswell, New Mexico When Liz returns to Roswell, Max tells her the truth about himself right off the bat. If anything, Max being an alien brought Liz and Max together, as his powers saved her life.
Winn and Lyra – Supergirl Winn always seems to fall for girls that aren’t from his planet. He was in love with Kara before he fell for Lyra, and while there was some betrayal on Lyra’s side, they had some cute moments.
Chloe and Brian – The Nine Lives of Chloe King This interspecies relationship was frowned upon for a good reason. If Chloe, a Mai, were to kiss Brian, a human, he would die. Unfortunately, they locked-lips in the season finale and Brian’s death proved that it wasn’t just a myth.
Tyler and Caroline – The Vampire Diaries A bite from a werewolf can kill a vampire, so if things get a little too heated it can be easy to fall into dangerous territory. Tyler and Caroline managed to pursue a relationship despite the complications, but sadly, they didn’t make it in the end.
Rose and The Doctor – Doctor Who The Doctor is a Time Lord and Rose is a human, which made a relationship between them hard. The Doctor’s responsibilities got in the way of a lot of things, and Rose ended up with a clone of him instead.
Harvey and Sabrina – Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Sabrina being a witch and Harvey being a human upset a lot of outside forces. Despite their feelings for each other, Sabrina’s coven didn’t approve of their relationship.
Scott and Allison – Teen Wolf Scott was a werewolf and Allison’s parents were werewolf hunters who tried to kill him on multiple occasions. There was a lot of drama that got in between them, but they loved each other more than anything. However, even after everything they managed to overcome, Allison’s tragic death prevented them from ending up together.
Simon and Isabelle – Shadowhunters Thankfully, by the time Isabelle and Simon got together, people were starting to open their minds to relationships between Shadowhunters and Downworlders. Simon and Izzy are soulmates, even if they did take way too long to figure it out.
Sam and Ruby – Supernatural This is one of those interspecies relationships that was always bound to fall apart. A romance between a demon and a demon hunter just didn’t work out in the long-run.
Hayley and Elijah – The Originals Hayley went from being a werewolf to a hybrid, while Elijah was one of the oldest and most powerful vampires to ever exist. But when it came to their relationship, it wasn’t much of a factor.
