There’s one thing we know about The Vampire Diaries Season 7:
Nina Dobrev will NOT appear on the series as Elena Gilbert. Or Katherine Pierce. Or any of the characters she has portrayed over the years.
What will we see on this CW drama in 2015-2016? We don’t know.
But we have some hopes and some ideas!

Steroline Forever!
Stefan and Caroline really being a couple. Like, no more drama. No more back and forth. No more drawing this couple out. We want to see them as a romantic team, not just for the hot sex, but also because the series now needs a new power couple for fans to cheer for. (RIP, Delena.)
Free Bonnie!
Bonnie needs to get a storyline that is all her own, not predicated upon any other character. No more being at the whim of a Salvatore or a Gilbert or even a love interest. Perhaps the story of her mother as a witch/vampire could be revisited. We finally know she’s not going anywhere, so it’s time for Bonnie to be given the respect she deserves and to put down some roots. Maybe Abby going toe to toe with Lily. Mama v Mama, people!
A Worthy Adversary
The Vampire Diaries has been hit (Klaus, Kai) and miss (Marco) with its villains. But there’s real potential with the Heretics. Julie Plec compared the group to The Originals (high praise!) in terms of how she plans to carve out their backstories and personalities. Let’s hope they become well-rounded, worthy adversaries for our heroes and heroines.

Michael Malarky was made a series regular for Season 6… and then seemed to appear in fewer scenes than he did on Season 5. And what the heck was up with that Sarah Salvatore storyline?!? There’s reason to hope, however, due to Enzo’s connection to Lily and the Heretics. Has he finally found a family?
The Pain of Alaric Saltzman
Let’s delve into the aftermath of Alaric losing everything. Again. What will this mean for him as a non-supernatural vampire hunter? We want to see Matt Davis truly step into the spotlight here.

Full heart, clear Matty Blue Eyes… can’t lose! With the jump ahead to conclude Season 6, and the peek at a destroyed Mystic Falls, along with Matt Donovan as a police officer, there’s hope that the series will finally find a significant storyline for its former Grill employee. Less burger-flipping, more bad guy-catching for Matty D1
Salvatores Unite!
As Plec has often said, TVD has always been a love story… between Damon and Stefan Salvatore. So with Elena no longer an awkward obstacle between them, let’s put an end to all petty bickering and see these siblings truly unite against whatever evil forces are out there. It’s the best hope for TVD lasting beyond Season 7: follow the Supernatural model and center the show around best friends who happen to be brothers.
