These memorable characters said goodbye, in one way or another, during recent TV seasons … but they will never be forgotten.
In fact, we still can’t believe they are gone …
Troy Barnes
Donald Glover left Community to pursue his rapping career. He took his beloved character with him.

Dr. Derek Shepherd
Dr. Derek Shepherd’s death on Grey’s Anatomy Season 11 was as brutal as it was unexpected and abrupt, a trifecta that left fans reeling like never before … which is saying something on a show that leaves its fans reeling from tragedies like weekly.

Joss Carter
The death of Detective Joss Carter continues to rock Person of Interest fans. But that’s the idea, isn’t it?

Allison Argent
When Teen Wolf announced someone wouldn’t make it to the end of Season 3, nobody imagined Allison would be taken. She died in the arms of Scott, her first love.

Chris Traeger
We are LITCHerally in disbelief. Chris Traeger has moved away from Pawnee, Indiana, taking his gal with him. No more Rob Lowe on Parks & Rec!

Ziva David
NCIS didn’t kill Ziva off, thank goodness. But she was writen out because Cote de Pablo wanted a change.

Daniel Grayson
On a show like Revenge, you never want your character to redeem himself or herself, becasue the next step may be death! Emily admitted she really loved him and people got their hopes up for his future as a decent human being and then — bam. Dead. RiP Daniel!

Nicholas Brody
He hung on for as long as he could. And then Nicholas Brody was hanged to conclude Homeland Season 3.

Tara Knowles
It was as cloody and as violent as any TV death in recent memory. RIP, Tara. Sons of Anarchy was never the same.

Hershel Greene
He was old. He was wise. And he was taken away from us too soon on The Walking Dead.

Sophie Deveraux
Sophie Deveraux never recovered from losing her niece. She was killed off The Originals Season 1.

Moira Queen
Despite her questionable choices in the past, Moira made the ultimate sacrifice for her children on Arrow, dying at the hands of Slade Wilson. Sob.

Will Gardner
In a string of shocking television deaths, Will’s death was one of the most shocking ever in a series. He died valiantly trying to save others in a courtroom shooting, changing the course of The Good Wife.

Walter White
Was Walter White the most beloved anti-hero of all time? Quite possibly. He died next to his beloved Baby Blue as the credits rolled on the series finale of Breaking Bad.

Patti (The Leftovers)
Patti may win for more unsettling death. She took her own life on The Leftovers in order to prove a point to Kevin.

Alcide Herveaux
Shot dead by rebelious citizens of Bon Temps and forgotten about like two days later? Alcide Herveaux deserved better on True Blood.

Prince Oberyn Martell
Sexy, skilled, confident and loved by many for his charming ways, he was no match for The Mountain on Game of Thrones, and though he still had a trick up his sleeve, the Prince was no more.

Katherine Pierce
Long before Elena, Stefan and Damon fought over Katherine. The sexy, sassy, mischevious Katherine was more fun to have around than her doppelganger Elena and is sorely missed on The Vampire Diaries.

Aiden Mathis
We wanted Emily to be happy with a strong man who loved her unconditionally at the end of Revenge. Instead Aiden died in the Revenge Season 3 finale.

Kevin Tran
The advance placement student who just wanted to be the first Asian American President got a lot more than he bargained for as a prophet on Supernatural, including killed by Gadreel as he hid inside Sam’s body in the bunker under the Winchesters’ protection. Yikes.

King Henry
Sexy King Henry seduced the girls then went bonkers. That’s a pretty sad legacy for the twisted king, but we’re gonna miss his antics in Reign. No doubt about it!

Dr. Lance Sweets
Oh Bones. We watched our precious Sweets grow from a young man in his profession to an expert in his field. Watching him die was very painful. The only plus is knowing actor John Francis Daley has a lot of work as a writer, director and producer. Whew!

Harrison Wright
Harrison Wright was on almost every episode until he was shot in the Scandal Season 3 finale. His death was not in vain, as it was the catalyst to getting Olivia back on her game and her Gladiators as well.

Leslie Shay
One of the two lead females on Chicago Fire, it seemed impossible Shay would die, after all her life was already on the line once before. But, no, she never made it out of the Season 2 finale fire. She will be sorely missed. Will we ever stop crying over it?

Christopher Ewing
Christopher may have been adopted, but he was as much a Ewing as any of the other Dallas residents sharing his name. He was blown up in his own car in the Season 3 Finale. The feud between him and John Ross? Over.

Cristina Yang
Sandra Oh wanted to try out different projects, and that left Meredith without her “person.” Cristina and Mer were the ultimate best friends for ten seasons. That’s a heck of a run!

Sara Lance/The Canary
Sara Lance was completely unexpected, but was quickly accepted into the hearts of Arrow fans. Her death paves the way for more stories, but leaves a black hole where the Canary once sang.

Bob Stookey
Bob joined group at the prison during The Walking Dead Season 4. Sasha saved him from a life of Alcoholism, but all that booze tenderized him, providing a good meal for Gareth and his looney cannibals. Yikes.

Barry Frost
Barry Frost was Jane Rizzoli’s partner on Rizzoli & Isles. His character died in a car accident. The actor, Lee Thompson Young, took his own life after suffering from depression at the tragic age of 29. Both are missed terribly.

Fara Sharazi
Fara started with the CIA at the beginning of Homeland Season 3 after so many with her skills were lost at the explosion during the Vice President’s funeral. She fought hard to make her mark and died at the hands of terrorist Haqqani after helping to track him down.

Elena Gilbert
Elena Gilbert, the love interest of both Salvatore brothers, has been the center of The Vampire Diaries universe for six seasons. She was a polarizing figure, but nevertheless a core character whose absence leaves a remarkably big void heading into Season 7.
